I was always told to put the oatmeal in the water and microwave it... wrong...

Try heating the water to a boil and then putting the oats in it. It isn't mush and it is much better to eat. I put loads of white sugar, some brown, and a little cinnamon. Vanilla is good if you have it and so are raisins. Fruit makes oatmeal weird though... I would keep the fruits on the side.

Good for you for eating oatmeal, it is really good for you :)

Some of my favorite ways to make oatmeal more exciting:

    - Add 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract when cooking the oatmeal.

    - Top with brown sugar or pure maple syrup.

    - Throw in some chopped bananas and raisins.

    - Prepare the oatmeal with milk instead of water for a richer consistency.

    Apple Oatmeal

    1/3 c Unsweetened apple juice

    1/3 c Water

    1/8 ts Nutmeg

1/2 Firm apple pared & finely

    1/3 c Oatmeal

    1/4 ts Cinnamon

Place juice, water, apple and seasonings in microwave proof measuring cup.

Nuke for 2.5 min. Place oatmeal in microwave proof serving bowl. Add

microwaved apple mixture to oatmeal. Microwave 1 min for quick oats, 3 min

for regular. Notes: Seasonings can be adjusted according to taste. Half

apples keep well until the next day or two by wrapping the unpealed half in

plastic wrap. Granny Smith or Macintosh apples are great for this.

Hi: I always add the milk right before taking it off the stove. Helps cool it down a bit and it doesn't get scorched. Some things you may want to try in your oatmeal are chopped canned peaches or whole raisins with a bit of cinnamon sugar added - yummy!

I love putting oatmeal in all kinds of stuff... for Thanksgiving and Christmas I make a Cranberry Casserole:

    2 c. fresh cranberries

3 c. chopped apples with peeling

    1 1/2 c. sugar

    1 1/2 c. oatmeal

    1 stick butter, melted

    1/2 c. brown sugar

    1/2 c. chopped pecans

Mix filling and put in casserole dish. Mix topping ingredients and cover filling. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour.

Oatmeal cookies are awesome, too.. I usually add a dash of pumpkin pie spices to make them even better.

My kids love eating oatmeal; they ask for it every morning for breakfast : ) I use brown sugar, cinnamon, ground cloves, nutmeg, and enough milk to make it creamy. Dynamite!
