Is the hole on Mars a hoax?

I read an article the other day about a hole that had been discovered on Mars. It was about the size of a football field and appeared to be the opening to a much larger cavern. The HiRise took pictures of it. Is this true or is it a hoax.

Update:

Ok...this didn't come off as a hoax at first. But such a discovery like this had me wondering why there wasn't very much chatter in the science community about this. I appreciate everyone's responce in helping resolve the confusion. Thanks!

xc It's real, no hoax. Besides, I don't see any reason for a hoax like that .

Of course it's true. There are actually several such holes, similar to ones known near volcanoes on Earth, and they have been photographed a number of times. Why would this be a hoax?

Yes. The hoax on Mars is a hole.

No it's possibly real, it could be a cave in from an ice-cave or some other geological formation.

It exists on an uplift or "bubble" of magma which had a defect, this defect has apparently started to have a hole. This could have been caused by a meteor impact on this uplift.

They are real. Of course, although they are considered natural phenomena, there will always be the "free thinkers" that will claim them to be entrances to star ports for aliens etc. Or gateways to the vast underground Martian civilisation.

For what possible purpose would it be a hoax?

    See for yourself:

It doesn't look like a hoax, to me.
