What do you leave for Santa?

I have two children, one is 4 and one is 2 and I have always left a glass of brandy and mince pie for santa and a carrot for rudolph because my ex-husband said after all the wrapping and sorting out on christmas eve he wasn't happy with a glass of milk! But I have recently been having conversations with a few friends and they all leave milk. I am worried that my kids are going to think I am encouraging drink driving!

Hahaha, I never thought of it like that before (drunk driving). We just leave out cookies and milk. The whole point is tradition, not practicality - if you're concerned about sending the wrong message to your kids, but don't want to drink the milk, just pour it back in the carton and make yourself a real drink after they go to bed.

Well, gnyla, for your information Rudolph guides the sleigh, do you not know the song, Rudolph the red nosed reindeer,Santa only asks him to guide the sleigh not drive it, and how could he with his hooves you plank, but to answer the question of milk or alcohol I'd go for milk as many other people leave alcohol and too much is not good for Santa, Just make it as magical as you can, for as long as you can they're only young for a short time,We also have reindeer oats, this is porridge oates mixed with coloured glitter, you put this out in the garden in the morning the birds will eat the oats, but don't tell the kids, and they are then left with the magic deer dust off there feet as a reminder that Santa has been, Happy Christmas.

Brandy and a mince pie for Santa and a bowl of milk and a carrot for Rudolph, I still believe in Santa even at my age.

Technically it is not santa driving rudolph and the raindeers are trained to pull santa and the presents along but if you do feel that uncomfortable about setting a bad example which i can see you point but i dont think they will take drink driving from santa if they are going to get it from any where it will be out on the street but switching the drinks after they go to bed wont do any harm and it will please everyone. but yes i do leave whisky mince pie and a carrot and a glass of water for rudolph.

Leave the milk and cookies for Santa. A carrot for Rudolph? How about a bunch of carrots for the other eight reindeer? And one for Olive*,too. And how about a package or two of Keebler's cookies for the elves at the North Pole? And how about Mrs. Claus? I'm sure she'd like a scarf or something. Let your husband get his own brandy. Never encourage drunk sleighing. Merry Christmas in case I don't see you at that time of year.

Olive*--she's mentioned in the Rudolph song. Olive, the other reindeer.

Yes, you are encouraging drinking and letting the kids think that drinking is OK. Leave a glass of milk and cookies. You know that kids mimic all that we do. So you had already had your doubts in what you were doing, so change it this year and tell them Santa cannot drink while driving his sleigh and that it is against the law. There is nothing better than a Mom that really cares about her kids like you do. You are already thinking about x-mas. Good Mommy..

Our tradition was mince pie, sausage roll and non-alcholic drink for Santa and carrot for Rudolph.

The children also always use to write a note to Santa to the effect that they hoped he had a good night, kept safe and would have a good rest the next day etc. etc.

Then after Christmas they wrote their "Thank you" letter.

All this added to the magic that they enjoyed.

I leave milk and a mince pie, which only ever has one bite missing out of it in the morning, Santa would get too big to fit down all them chimneys!
