He was an emperor of Rome. He started the great fire of Rome and blamed it on the early Christians (or was it the Catholics?) so they would be persecuted. Also, his name written in either Latin or Greek resemble the letters 666. 666 is said to stand for the devil, but it actually just "stands" for Nero, whom destroyed about one fourth of Rome just so the Catholics could be persecuted.

The last of the Julio-Claudian emperors Nero succeeded Emperor Claudius. After Claudius was poisoned by his mother Nero came to the Throne at seventeen. He dispatched his mother shortly afterwards His tutor was Seneca, though he liked to think of himself as an artist. He was the first and last emperor to compete at the Greek olympic games. He won every event he competited in. He was accomplished actor, must to the disgust of the Roman Senators. Funnilly enough despite what we hear it seems he was liked by the people, just not the ruling senatorial class. Neros reign is reknown for lavish public spectacle that endeared him to the plebs (least in the beggings). It is rumoured that he started the Great fire of Rome. Whether or not he did , on top of the ruins he built his lavish Golden Palace (stood on the site the colliseum is in Rome). Nonetheless the result seems to be the first (of many and not entirely remarkable) concentrated persecution of a minority sector of society, the christians. Nero reigned for about for 15 years. Until he was forced to flee from Senatorial uprisings to his country estate. He had his slave assist him in suicide, he reportedly stated " oh what an artist the world loses in me"

His reign is best reknown for lavish expenditure, but also for cruelty and treason trials. He was reportedly quite mad and on one incident dressed as hercules and while people were attached to the cross....... well ill leave you to wonder what a sexually depraved mad man would do (they were all male). His other vices was incest, again some doubt.

Most of the evidence has been removed, and most of the reports we get are scathing at best. Though after his reign was the year of four emperors leading to a swift civil war to become emperor, Nero was offically succeeded by Galba
