Everytime I try to tell my mom, she rants on about how "ungrateful and unthankful" I am and she mentions that *other* kids would love to be homeschooled. She also mentions how *iMpOsSiBlE* it would be if I were the only sibling out of 4 to go to public school, though my little sister says she wants to go back to public school as well. And my mum could easily drop me off at the public school at 7am, and my siblings could start at 10am, and end it at 3pm. (Our regular schooltimes.) The main reason I want to go back to public school is; I've gotten extremely sad and I have more time than I should have to focus on my outward appearance... It has caused me to do extreme diets and make myself throw up... I cry myself to sleep almost every night. Last time I went outside was 9 months ago... I'm really lonely and I ask my parents all the time if I could do some homeschool activities to meet new people and such, but the only answer I ever get is "no" .. I'm in a religious homeschooling curriculum, but my parents are changing it because it's "too religious" and it basically teaches 4th grade subjects. I'm in 8th grade.

I've been struggling with severe depression and anxiety from school as well as other personal issues, and I've come to the point where I don't have much happiness and relaxation because all I can think about is having to go back to school. I've proposed the idea of online school to my mother, but she doesn't seem to want to try it, even just for a little while. Does anyone have any advice on whether or not homeschooling is a better option for anxiety and depression over public school?

  • How do I make friends as a homeschooler?

Some are only for Christian students and will require you to sign a faith statement. Others are only for unschooled students. Others may be primarily very young kids. Keep looking though. For us to find one works for us we have to drive 35 miles one way. That’s not doable more than a day or two a week.

I’d also suggest you look with in your community. You don’t need to limit yourself to homeschooled students only. Are you interested in martial arts? Check out a dojo. Your local parks and rec department may offer classes for teenagers. Ours even offered an art class for homeschooled students, but it didn’t seem to last. I’m not sure why. Maybe the instructor didn’t want to continue. Check out of there any private soccer leagues or other athletic leagues in your community. Community theater or volunteer work or other ideas. It’s always good to look at your community broadly

I am 13, in 8th grade, and am homeschooled. Well, virtual schooled. Anyway...I could spend all day writing all of the things I don't like about it, and how it's affecting me. I've been virtual schooled since 1st grade, spent the last eight years of my life in my bedroom, by myself, staring at a computer screen... How do I tell them...I just can't do this anymore (again I have so many more reasons, just not going to type it out)? I want to go to a "normal" school. Be around other people... Stop staring at a computer screen... I'm going crazy. I just...can't. It was hard enough for middle school, 6-8, I refuse to do this for high school. How can I tell them this? I've got plenty to say...but how do I bring it up? And if they start getting annoyed/crabby (they do SO easily), how do I keep it civil? I want them to know...but I am tired of getting interrupted, yelled at, cussed at, and getting accused of "talking back" when I DO try to speak up. I really CAN'T do this anymore...I've spent too much of my life...alone. I'm the only teenager around. I can't do high school like this... Any help would be appreciated. Thank you so much :)

  • Home schooler interested in doing a pageant?

I'm home schooled and I want to sign up for a pageant. I'll be in the ninth grade next year, so I'll be eligible. My only problem is that they do scholarships. Do pageants accept home schoolers? And if they do, where would the scholarship money go?

Hi, My name is alexandria and I'm 17 years old. I have a question about the future, but have no where else to turn. I was in public school from Pre-K to 5th grade. My mom started to home school me from 6th grade through 7th grade, after that we would do school every other month. Like once a month! She eventually completely stopped cause she said it was too much and that she wanted to hang out with her friends. I couldn't go back to school because i was so far behind and it wasn't my choice. I went from getting awards for being the smartest girl in the school to...well...this.... Being at home, depressed and dumb. I know i shouldn't have let any of this overcome me, but it did. It's been years of my depression. I'm just now getting help from a therapist. She recommended that i go back to highschool. I never even did highschool work except Pre and regular algebra. I will be put in the lowest grade and possibly be made fun of. Which will affect my confidence even more. By me being in this homeschooled stuff it has created a version of me that i hate. I want to be successful, just don't know how. My therapist also recommend that i go to this camp that will teach me for 6 months. I'm afraid to leave and be forced to do military activities. I don't want to share a room with multiple people for 6 months just for a high school diploma. I'm not trying to sound like a brat, i promise! But, i feel as if i could do something different and quicker. Maybe a GED?
