• I read on google to give sugar water to a puppy that won't breast feed, can too much sugar be bad, cane syrup, or corn syrup, peanut butter?

Best answer: Yes, of course too much of anything can be overdone. And you use glucose or Karo syrup on the gums, NOT sugar water and for God's sake - NOT PEANUT BUTTER - (are you INSANE?) As you've been told ad nauseum, BEFORE you take any such step, you need to KNOW WHY the puppy is NOT taking the teat.... and what is wrong with it. If it WON'T take a teat & feed => YOU'VE GOT A PROBLEM!

Did the mother & the litter go to the vet after the whelping? All mother dogs need a "clean out" shot and all pups need to be checked - to be sure they are healthy - like no CLEFT PLATES - which might explain why...... the puppy is not taking the teat.

Your vet can show you HOW to tube feed, if it is necessary and it is THE MOST efficient way to feed a quick and correct amount of canine milk replacer to a very young puppy who is NOT able to suck - if you want to save it.

  • Wouldn't community gardens help in remote indigenous communities in Australia? Housing, yes but also growing food. Why not?

Some communities don't have money. Ie welfare is not paid in money. Their 'vouchers' can only be spent on crap from the terrible stores. Lack of access to soil, seeds, water (irrigation) fertiliser, expertise, a bunnings, can be prohibitive. A program driving the initiative has to be implemented and maintained. An overhaul of their eating habits could take many years. And then you need the wholehearted support of elders who are probably very jaded with 'initiatives'. I think it's just in the 'too hard' basket. You really need a commited group of locals. And of it's not in their psyche then it just won't get off the ground.

He gets 5 go to the bathroom walks a day, some run time in an open area and some hour long walks occassionally. We play tug and fetch with him in the house. He wrestles with his house-mate, a smaller terrier mix pound puppy. He is active, happy and healthy. We got him at 8 weeks, and he has never been distructive. The only thing that I would warn the OP against is if the dog will be home alone a lot. We are retired, so our pup gets a lot of attention from us.
