I have been so heartbroken by the online discrimination again my girl, a pittie named Wren. She has overcome so much. Found as a stray in below freezing conditions, so afraid of people she almost killed herself trying to escape, she was caught by our hero, a cancer patient dedicated to rescue. We adopted her, and it is phenomenal how much she trusts us. I met her at a doggy daycare, and she trusted me so much, when a dog bullied her, she stopped fighting back when she saw me, knowing I would throw the dog off, and protect her. Similar things have happened so many times. She hid behind me when boyfriend showed her a drain pipe that scared her. Yet, when boyfriend came back from a bachelor party and tried to break in, having lost his keys, I was so scared, not realizing it was him, and hid, and she barked and charged the door until he got in and she saw him, and we were both so relieved. She is so gentle with kids, small dogs, and even found a mouse that she treated so gently, and tried to play with, but refused to hurt. Does she really seem like a killer to most? I want to believe I have just met bad people that would be so cruel, as she is so sweet, and is so compassionate. Do many really think she's bad since she's a pit? Even though she treats all with such respect and love, and even tries to protect me, which I usually discourage, if we are mortally afraid?

I’ve put time into training her, I’ve tried possitive reinforcement, negative reinforcement, spanking, yelling, treats, you name it and nothing works. I’ve tried trick training her and she learned sit after a week but that’s all she knows. She’s a 6 month old lab and everyone tells me that she’s just a puppy and will grow out of it but none of my other dogs were this bad as puppies. She gets her head stuck in everything, she doesn’t listen, she tries to swim in her water dish even though I tell her no and put her outside when she does. She’s always happy and excited which makes me feel bad for yelling at her all the time but she’s always so bad. This dog has brought me to tears just from frustrating me so bad. She’s very sweet she’s just stupid and doesn’t listen to anything. We thought maybe she might be deaf but the vet doesn’t think that’s the case. I don’t want to ask the vet if she’s retarded out of fear of sounding harsh and stupid but I just don’t know what it is at this point.

  • Who is at fault? Me or the vet.?

My dog s eye recently swelled up and we took him to the vet and found it to be a scratched cornea. We got 3 drops to give him, one 2 times a day, one every 4 hours, and apparently one drop every 3 days. They misprinted a label and put the one every 4 hours on the atropine sulfate drops, which dilates my dogs eye.... show more

  • Does pedigree predict whether your dog is feisty or not? I ask because if my dog even sees another dog from a distance, she ll go nuts?

Shes not a pedigree dog, and I love her even more for having a "personality" because those "behaved" dogs seem boring (like my sister s pittie, who is a sweetie, but is dull). The only regret is not being able to take her to per friendly cafes/restaurants.

So my mom asked me to go out and bring in our dog who is barking. So I simply walk out there and notice that my dog is trying to run away from me. I end up catching her and picking her up, noting that she is wet. I asked my mom about this and she said that she sprayed the dog with a water hose. Our water hose has a strong pressure while our dog is just a small chihuahua who hates water. Our dog also has a limp which my mom said she is not sure how our dog got it (I noticed the limp when I got home from school). I’ve been begging my mom to take her to the vet but she refused. I’m really shocked and now seeing my mom differently as I never imagined her abusing our dog. I’ve also noticed my mom has been drinking a lot more and has been acting weird when she drinks. I’m really worried about our dog and our three other dogs since my mom is the main caretaker of them. Should I tell someone or talk to her about it?

He doesn’t budge! Even if I put the treat a centimeter away from his nose. He’ll move in slightly trying to reach the treat but won’t get up. If he moves toward me even just an inch I say “good boy” ethusiastically then Sometimes he will get up. Sometimes I’ll coax him up if I start playing with his toy. But eventually he stops. Is he being lazy, are the treats not motivating enough? When he does this he doesn’t appear frightened, honestly he seems more fed up with me! My voice is higher pitched and soft when I train. I am using the positive reinforcement training method. We use Zuke’s trainin treats. I think I may start using tiny bits of actual chicken to get him more motivated to do commands. What do you think?
