I was thinking about going back home to see family for the holidays.... I live in a different state. The family member that i was going to stay with says i can no longer bring my pup. She initially told me i could. She is seeing someone and he is allegedly allergic to dogs. I asked if he is allergic to all dogs, because my pup is a Maltese and is therefore a hypoallergenic dog. To sum things up, my dog isn’t welcome there. I’m not leaving my dog behind. I’ve had him since he was 8 weeks old, he is now almost 4 years old and i’ve never spent a night without him. He is not just a dog to me. So at this point, i’ve decided to either stay at my place, just my pup and I for the holidays or we may take a trip to cali and spend it there. I’m a little upset because the dog wasn’t an issue before. I’m glad that I didn’t book my flight because i would have been livid. My question is, am i wrong for being mad?

He badly injured my elderly neighbours cat last night, I assume it will die from the injuries, it had no blood but was paralysed. The cat was in my yard, I wrapped the cat in a towel and took him to the neighbours and appogised. The neighbour usually gives my dog treats every day, I feel so sorry. Should I have the dog put to sleep? He kills anything that enters the yard. Birds, possums and cats :) in Australia it’s nirmsl for dogs to live outside. My house is a high house and he has a kennel under the stairs and he also has a bed under the house where I park the car. It’s not an option to have him inside as I don’t want dog smell in my house.

So one day the daughter of my neighbors (who was a 3 year old toddler) tried to pet my dog through the fence, but my dog bite the girl's hand (the bite so bad that she needed stitches). The little girl's older siblings saw the whole thing of my dog biting her hand and instinctually told their parents about it. So the parents came and visited my house, and told me what happened. They were very angry, and told me they were going to sue me. So they sued me, and I lost thousands of dollars, and my dog had to get put down. It makes me mad that they sued me, while knowing my dog could get put down as a result of it. They didn't care at all about my dog being put down. I know what my dog did was not ok at all, but it wasn't his fault, he was just scared. I would've been willing to get rid of the dog if the parents just asked them too, instead of them telling me they were going to sue me and then actually doing it. Because of what happened, I am thinking about moving to another place.

Best answer: First, it is NEVER a good idea to just THROW multiple new dogs into a household, no matter how well behaved the dogs might be. The dogs have to be CAREFULLY INTRODUCED in a NEUTRAL territory away from both the home and the yard- which I am sure was NOT DONE.

Secondly, the dogs from his parents WERE NOT well behaved. They were rowdy and fought or scuffled often - which you say UPSET his dog When dog fights break out, dogs often pile up on one dog - and this may have happened in this case.

It takes remarkably little to hurt a small dog or animal. It can be suffocated by simply being grabbed around the ribcage. There is no way to know who started it- and whether it was fighting or rowdy play. It is also possible they were playing, since you woke up and had heard NOTHING to warn you of say a major dog fight.

Further. all of you broke another CARDINAL RULE IN DOGS: it is NEVER recommended to ever put dogs together in a household that weigh more than 25 pounds more than each other, due to the high likelihood of injury, even in play.

In that you (plural) did not choose to confine the dogs, when you could not watch them (by crating or any other means) there was no way to avoid a problem - whether in play or due to aggression or resource guarding. The incident could (also) have occurred while you were at the grocery store or at work.

Your Dane is quite large and very unlikely to die from a single puncture wound, unlike a small dog. It will depend on again how the dog is introduced to his dog and whether your dog is OPPOSITE gender (which is best) in this situation. I would make sure the remaining parental dog is out of the household first.

BF's dog should never have been asked to deal with TWO INVADING dogs to his home and territory. If all were male; even worse. Further, if his dog is not neutered, it needs to happen, ASAP. Neutered dogs bite people and other dogs => 75% LESS OFTEN.

A refresher obedience course for BOTH your dog and his, might also be advisable, since you will both need good control and good manners in the dogs, if you do a combined household.

My dog just moved into my apartment with me from my parent's backyard. She has never really shown signs of aggression, but the last few days, she's been growling at simple things like me putting on or taking off her harness. I have to use the harness (which she used to love) because she barks at other dogs and people in my apartment complex when we go for walks/outside to potty. She also used to HATE being in her crate, but now she retreats into it for the entire day. A few minutes ago, I was putting her harness on her to go outside and she got away from me and went into her crate, but the unfinished harness got caught on the crate's hook. She snarled and barked at me when I helped her get uncaught. Please help, I don't want to get rid of her. I need to know why she's like this now or how I can help fix her.

Best answer: There are some vaccines that every dog should have - with very few exceptions. And there are some vaccinations that may not be needed where you live. This is where you do some studying, or ask the vet, what vaccines are needed where you live.
Most places require rabies and distemper vaccinations, and probably parvo; and I would certainly get all of these. One time my dog was due for vaccinations but had a serious chronic illness; my vet recommended the distemper but hinted that, though rabies was required by law, she was not going to push the issue with the dog in such frail health. I didn't get him the rabies shot until his strength was built up. Obviously in his frail condition he was not going out where he could catch rabies or distemper or anything! Now, a friend had a dog in frail health, and a neighbor falsely reported that he was not taking care of the dog [I think she was nuts actually] and so they investigated and since the dog was overdue for a rabies shot, they required him to get it; and the dog died within days. Now doubt she would have survived a few more months otherwise. That is the only situation I can recall when a dog had ill effects from vaccination, and obviously veterinarians are aware of this hazard. Rabies vaccine is fine of course for nearly all dogs, and rabies is extremely rare as a result of its being required.
