One of the things that has emerged over the years in the so called "professional press" over recent years is fake news, and in the last three or so years it has run rampant as liberals and even RINO papers try to discredit Trump and his supporters. I want to be clear: I don't think we should ever limit freedom of the press, but it needs to be regulated in the same way that you cannot shout fire in a crowded theater. I think that President Trump should appoint an **independent** commission to evaluate which mainstream outlets should carry the label "FAKE NEWS" Newspapers, especially the failing New York Times and the Washington (com)Post should carry labels stating "THIS MEDIA MAY CONTAIN FAKE NEWS AND UNVERIFIED STORIES." News channels that have been recognized as Fake News, should periodically scroll the same message in bold letters across their news tickers. This is the same kind of regulation that is applied to cigarettes, and it should be applied to something as powerful as mainstream media. FAKE NEWS is one of the biggest threats to democracy in our times. We need to control it quickly before it destroys our democracy. We need to inform consumers of FAKE NEWS.

Hi all. I'm a freelance journalist and later this week I will be attending my first ever press conference. I know what to bring and I know everything that I have to do. The only thing that I don't know is what I should wear. As a journalist at the event, should I go for a smart/casual look such as a pair of jeans and a shirt or should I go for something more formal such as a suit? Any advice would be much appreciated and quick replies would be nice because the event is only days away. Thanks!

  • Vue cinema cancels gay cure film screening, is Freedom of speech and the right to freedom of expression in danger?

Best answer: The Vue cinema in question is in London. The UK doesn't have a constitution so no constitutional rights.

The religious group had been less than candid about their intentions when booking the screen and the cinema decided these contradicted its values when they saw the group's press release.

  • Thatcher and subsequent tory housing policies have increased property prices, council tax bands are based on valuations done in 1991, 2018?

Best answer: Governments shy away from revaluations because the council tax increases suffered by many people would be deeply unpopular and most of those people would be voters. After the revaluation carried out in Wales in 2003 resulted in 33% of Welsh households going up at least one band and only 8% going down, plans for a revaluation in England were dropped.

Property values aren't a particularly good indication of ability to pay council tax anyway. The "poll tax", which council tax was rushed in to replace, was flat rate and even more unpopular because took no account of ability to pay. Now records of the income people pay tax on or the benefits they receive are on computer, I cannot understand why a tax based on ability to pay cannot be collected by the government and distributed to councils. Except increasing income tax is something else governments shy away from, choosing to increase VAT and introduced "stealth taxes" instead.
