In Korea, eating dogs is very popular. Why then do we not do it in the US?

    Favourite answer:

We don't eat dogs in the United States because we have never eaten dogs. In China, Korea, and other places in the world there is a history of it. We eat little piggies (which are smarter than dogs) and developed the domestic cow over hundreds of years to both drink it's milk and eat it's flesh. Maybe both are wrong?

Do you think that Chinese food tasted better with MSG?

    Favourite answer:

MSG, or monosodium glutimate, is a salt that literally excites your taste buds.  When I was 19 you could buy it in spice bottles in the supermarket with the other spices.  I remember a friend and I who were in a consumer nutrition class together went to the market, saw it on the shelves, opened it and each put a pinch on our tongues, it make our tongues tingle.

Which culture do you think has the worst food?

I’m going to have to throw my people under the bus here, but in my opinion haitians have the worst food.

For example, they love to eat corn meal and yams. There’s this one cuisine called mayi moulen and it tastes so bland. The bread that they make is so stale too! And they love to fry foods like plantain and pork. What sucks the most is that a lot of their food is high in salt so most haitians are doomed to get high blood pressure and obesity. I’m glad I grew up in the states I could not survive off that crap.

Which nation has the healthiest cuisine? ?

    Favourite answer:

Japanese cuisine is considered the healthiest. They eat enough meat but don't overeat it like we Westerners do. And, as with most island-countries, they eat a lot of fish too. They also eat lots of vegetables with their stirfrys.

Nutritionists tell us that HALF of our plate should be vegetables.  Typical western meals are 0 to one-quarter vegetables (you can't really count potatoes or corn, since they are mostly just starch).

As for salad, iceberg lettuce - the lettuce that we buy most often - does not have much nutrition in it.  The most nutritious greens are kale, spinach, romaine/cos lettuce, and argula.

    is sushi overrated?

    Favourite answer:

It is just a culinary fad. Eating raw fish on a regular basis is just a temptation of getting Really sick. Most restaurants hold very strict cleanliness habits, but eventually you will always find ONE that is not.

Lobster comes from New England, and Chinese food comes from the Canadian Maritimes. Did you know that?

The two places are nothing alike. One is all Anglo Saxon commercial fisherman, the other is all Chinese Kung Flus.

Is American food healthier than the crap in Quebec?

American food is sushi, seafood, fruits and vegetables.

In Quebec it's all cheeseburgers, pizza, hot dogs, fish n chips and poutine and bacon. No wonder everybody in Quebec is fat.

I am having a semi-formal dinner party. For a fruit and cheese plate for dessert, what fruits and cheeses to serve?

    Favourite answer:

If I were serving an ethnic meal I'd probably follow through on the ethnic theme with the dessert.  I would probably think hard about whether the cheese plate would be appropriate after an ethnic meal.  I don't know much about pakistani food, but you seem to so you may want to look to pakistani desserts and after meal treats if you can find them.

I am a very good cook, and I find meals that are planned with a balance of textures and flavors that work together tend to be more seamless.

It's been a long time since I tried to "snare" someone with food, but if I were in that situation I'd also be thinking of keeping things satisfying but not to heavy and avoiding foods that cause gas or stinky breath.  I want things to appear ... natural and relaxed and not overly planned at home. The bathroom must be spotless and I'd have my music and lighting planned out in advance.  Fresh flowers literally lift moods and make you feel better so I'd have unpretentious flowers at the table (avoid really smelly ones on the table) and another small boquet in the living area and maybe a teeny one or a single flower in the bathroom.

If I'm trying to get lucky a spotlessly clean bedroom with clean sheets and bedding and fluffy pillows is a must have.  And it wouldn't hurt to have the cheese plate ready and covered in the fridge, along with an extra bottle of a nice light wine in case you need a snack after getting lucky.  As for fruit with the cheese, grapes and strawberries, the best you can find.  Grapes are in season right now and the big round red ones are awesome.  For cheeses, I like to have a variety of textures, something firm, something softer, something spreadable.  If you have a Trader Joes in your area they have an excellent cheese selection and good prices.  I am particularly partial to their Toscanos,  if they have the one with cinnamon get that, or the one soaked in chardonnay.  If they dont have those get the one with pepper.  Their cheddar with caramelized onions is to die for.  And then something much softer.
