• Christmas?

So a LOT of people celebrate christmas, but why do the people who don’t believe in Jesus celebrate it? Always wondered because it is a religious holiday.

  • What can I get my 16 year old teenage son for Christmas he likes music a lot but not really interested in certain things?

Best answer: Might be simpler to give him a gift card to itunes or amazon or something. Or just cash. At 16, he's probably beyond the simple materialism. He's also old enough to have a good idea of what he wants and how to get it without having his parents decide everything for. Or just directly ask him:... show more

Or just directly ask him: "anything you want for Christmas?" makes it a lot easier to plan to get.

I love Christmas but I don’t want the tree up this early. We live in the U.K. so the day after Thanksgiving tradition does not apply. I want it up at the end of November or early December. He wants it now and is sulking. When do we put it up?

  • What are your big plans for this year Thanksgiving Day?

Best answer: I'm heading up to my grandad's cabin in Tennessee with my mom, dad, and three dogs. The cabin's on top of a mountain located in Pigeon Forge, which is always beautifully decorated this time of year.

Best answer: Family gatherings - the Holidays especially - are depicted as being so joyous and wonderful for everyone.

For me, the sense of obligation to attend (and pretend!) became too much. and by my 30s I began to affirm my self, preferring to leave my attendance "open" and 'just not sure' if I really wanted to attend. Being ambiguous, using polite little white lies, harmed no one. Oh, I was on my own at 18...but still felt I had to keep up appearances.

Call me cynical, but drunk or not this holiday that begins November and runs past January is excessive at best, and most people are exhausted and relieved that it is over anyway.

This has ultimately worked out well -- I can attend...or not.
