• Is this hacking?

Best answer: I suppose it could be a crime but frankly I have never heard of anyone getting convicted of hacking a password and logging in but not doing anything.

As the only internet access I have at home, is with my mobile phone and the pre-paid monthly credit I have with my ISP. My notebooks runs Windows 10, and Norton Security Premium is installed on both devices.

Then install these browser add-ons from the browser add-on section of the web browser
Noscript, Adblock Plus, Random Agent Spoofer, Hoxx free VPN, HTTPS Everywhere, Web RTC remover, browser security addons.

Then download and install Sandboxie and Eraser. Configure sandboxie to 'WIPE' the files using the file wiping program called Eraser.
Both are free and you can Google how to do it.

Then if you want to go really high tech install a program similar to or get the best one in its class called Deep Freeze standard. This is a high-tech system restore program so that no matter what type of malware could possibly get into your computer when you reboot the system everything is reverted back to how it was before you got the infection I have been using this setup for 10 years because I only visit highly infected websites every single day for 10 years and not one single virus in this entire world has ever infected my computer ever.
So if you want to know how to make your computer virtually virus proof the solution is to use a setup that most of the population doesn't even know about or has setup because hackers go after the easy marks.
It's like being in the woodsof a group of people and having a bear attack you as long as you're the fastest runner you have no worries. Don't use the standard everyday antivirus that everybody else uses because that's the first thing that the hackers designer malware to get around if everybody uses the same door lock in a neighborhood the bad guys only have to figure it out one way in

Best answer: It is theoretically possible for a virus in one computer to exploit a security weakness in other computers on the same local network without you doing anything yourself.

If you have Windows 10, then Microsoft will download updates and change settings without you having any control over it. Windows 10 is as insidious as some viruses. In this case Windows 10 downloads things over which you have no control. Windows Defender is the default protection for Windows 10, but is not renowned for offering the best virus protection.

If you are behind a NAT router (most home routers are NAT routers), then you will be protected from random hacking from the Internet unless you have configured port forwarding or a DMZ.
