But I'm sure there was a time where NYC roads were jam packed full of cars and traffic was atrocious. As recently as the 1980s (by comparison) in Western European and Canadian cities there was plenty of breathing space on the roads as not many families owned 2 cars or more. In NYC on the other the hand the pollution was horrendous in the 1980s (probably due to the insane amount of cars New Yorkers owned then). Even when I look at pictures of NYC as far back as the 1920s the streets were proper FULL of cars! So when was the last time NYC had quiet roads (not full of vehicles) and which was the worst decade for traffic/pollution? Thanks!

So I’m a 22 year old girl who just started traveling and my first and only place I’ve traveled to so far is New York. I went over a month ago and fell in love. • How to get from New York City to Westbury?

Google maps shows there is a train that goes to Westbury, but when I go on Amtrak and type in Westbury for my destination, it says it's an invalid station. Is there a bus, train, or anything that gets you there without a car? Thanks.

  • Should I be worried about being exposed to asbestos in New York City?

I was thinking about travelling to New York City, but feel hesitant after reading about how the USA hasn't banned asbestos. Are there still factories manufacturing it? Should I be worried about hotels or potholes in NYC having asbestos in them and getting exposed by it?

Best answer: It once did. However during World War Two the Germans occupied Holland and the other "Low Countries." The tunnel would have been an easy and obvious route for Allied troops to use to invade Nazi occupied Europe, so the Germans dynamited the tunnel, demolishing and flooding the section that went across the Atlantic. The section that remained intact included the part that goes from Lower Manhattan to Jersey City. After the war, authorities considered rebuilding the tunnel but as aircraft could by then easily cross the Atlantic, it was decided not to. All that remains is the section that goes under the Hudson River.

So, if you do a web search for local tour guides (e.g. https://www.ganyc.org/ ) or photographers (you'd be getting professional-quality photos and not 2nd rate junk) you might find something to your liking. If it doesn't work out, I suppose in theory (and if it's early enough in December) you could talk to some of the local college students to see if they'd be willing to make some extra money by shadowing you for a day or so. And then if none of that works out, remember that there are such things as selfie sticks, tripods, mini-tripods, monopods and camera timers--you might not need someone's help all the time to shoot self-portraits.

[Edit: I just remembered Big Apple Greeter; you might want to check them out: https://bigapplegreeter.org/visitors/

    YES with some common sense.

  • Why is New Jersey beaches a popular tourist destination when they are dirty and not as good beaches as Florida or the Caribbean?

This is typical stereotyping of New Jersey as a dirty smelly place. But good, keep thinking that. It helps keep the riff-raff out.

Florida and the Caribbean is a lot farther away for most people such as those from Philadelphia and New York.

    Best answer: Uptown.

The Port Authority Bus Terminal is at 42nd Street. Central Park starts at 59th Street and goes up to 110th Street. The higher the street number goes, the further uptown you are.

It was an agency that was New York and New Jersey together. I think I came and left via GW bridge but I thought there was no toll for leaving. It definitely wasn’t a tunnel. We were driving from The Boro Hotel in Queens to Ohio if that helps. Also, the bill had a picture of my rear license plate. So frustrating, I just want to pay this darn thing so I don’t incur a late fee or anything on my license.
