It seems to me that if people wanted to "cull the herd," we would want Earth to warm, rather than new energy sources.

Keep in mind that climate science is in its infancy and advancing at a snail's pace. Greed, lust for power and misplaced egos have made climate science a joke. Warming Alarmists only see $Billions of Taxpayers' dollars available to them if they are willing to prostitute themselves to produce the 'right' research results. It's sad that such trash have sullied the reputations of ethical scientists.

  • Why do global warming deniers laugh at predictions of global cooling from the 1970s yet predict cooling now?

Best answer: Why do they call climate scientists "alarmist" then turn around and make warnings about how AGW is a giant hoax to destroy the first world economy, take away freedom or otherwise sadistically cause harm? Hard to take seriously the notion that they are the calm and rational ones isn't it.

Best answer: I'm politically liberal by US standards but fairly centrist in terms of European politics. My view on global warming is that it's now pretty much certain that we're causing the planet to warm and that there will be both positive and negative impacts, although I accept that many of those impacts (both positive and negative) are still somewhat speculative at this moment in time. Nevertheless, I believe that global warming is an issue we need to deal with.

What do I think we should do about it? Well, I think we need to look at the bigger picture ...

Basically, I think we need to maintain a Capitalist system but to modify it to include the actual costs involved. Let me give a few examples.

Suppose I go off in my fishing vessel, capture lots of fish, and sell it at a profit. Where in the accounting system is the depletion of fish stocks taken? This depletion of a resource has a dollar value attached to it.

Suppose I cut down a swathe of rain forest to grow palm oil. I sell it and make a profit. Where in the accounting system is the loss of rain forest taken? That could have, for example, been of benefit in terms of tourism intake, in terms of possible species of plants containing valuable compounds for drug manufacture, etc?

Suppose I decide to build a fracking plant and use water from a local aquifer for that process. I make a profit selling oil or gas. But where in the accounting system is the loss of a water resource taken?

The point I'm making is that we have a tendency to see resources as a gift we give to private entities who we allow to use and extract those resources to make a profit. I buy land. I find oil on my land. I can now extract that oil, sell it, and make a profit. My personal belief is that the resources of a country are owned by the people, and we need to have mechanisms that ensure we get the best value for money for the depletion of those resources. I buy land. I find oil on my land. But that resource has a dollar value in terms of using it up. My job is to find the best opportunity for that oil that maximises my profit despite the cost I will pay for using it. That might not be for the original plan I had. Maybe I'll have to think of a cheaper way to extract it that gives me more bang for my buck.

So, global warming I think is part of a bigger picture. If you're determined to burn fossil fuels then fine, but there is a dollar cost associated with the loss of that resource that you'll have to pay. Not interested anymore, fine. Maybe the company who has better tech and can burn it more efficiently can cover that cost and still make a substantial profit ...

Our world has had a livable climate for about 3 billion years, thanks to two things our sun and our water, during that time CO2 has gone from about 95% down to 0.04% without changing it.

Politics and politicians created the Anthropogenic Global Warming “dog and pony show”, they have denigrated CO2 into a “magic gas” that is supposed cause runaway warming and failed. The made up pseudoscience that “fiddled” with the Laws of Physics is being debunked daily, exposing the hoax.

The Sun and natural variances have begun to cool the Earth and that is the ultimate “slap in the face”, for this Alarmist joke that will fade away in history as a bad dream.

  • Why so much concern lately about plastic straws? Is there something unique to straws that makes them worse than other waste?

Just curious. Straws are a minuscule percentage of our waste stream. I was contemplating a Starbucks frappucino - so they get rid of the straw, but what about the cup? Why is the straw the problem?
