Best answer: Yes, this is normal. Some vacuums are better at handling that sort of stuff than others, but none of them are actually designed with that sort of clean-up in mind. The designers of vacuums assume that the users will first pick up anything large enough to pick up, such as wadded-up paper or Kleenex. Vacuums are designed primarily to pick up small particles ranging from dust to potting soil to perhaps as large as breakfast cereal (depending on the machine and the mode you choose).

Specialty vacuums such as shop-vacs or wet & dry vacs are the ones you want for picking up larger or denser items, but even they have limits to what they can gobble.

  • If I wash my clothes by hand and just use my washing machine to rinse and wring them, would it be cheaper than running whole machine cycle?

I m trying to cut down on water bill and electric bill. So I m cutting down on wash cycle and not using dryer. I notice I can wash more clothes, smaller pieces throughout the week as opposed to washing everything end of the week,

  • Hookah left with water in it for ~9/10 months, should it be thrown away?

I’m wondering if I should throw away this hookah or attempt to clean it. It was left with water in the base from October of last year til August of this year because it was hidden at my previous apartment by my roommate. Soooo worth it to keep it or just toss it out?

I do laundry every week. I use a liquid detergent -- whatever is on sale when I'm running out. For the time being it's Arm and Hammer. Sometimes its Sun and sometimes (usually) it's Purex. I live alone, and I wear pants two days in a row (usually), so I'll end up having three pairs of slacks, six shirts, six pairs of underwear and six pairs of socks. Then every other week I have a load of rags, towels, wash cloths sheets and pillow cases. I usually use 1/3 of a capful of detergent and add a scoop of Dollar Tree Brand oxi-clean stain booster. If I'm doing my towels and sheets, I about 1/3 of a bottle of Dollar Tree scent booster. I used to use fabric softener sheets in the dryer, but I stopped when I ran out a them and could not notice any difference in the softness of my clothes without them. I also pretreat any noticeable stains as soon as possible by soaking the entire stain with Oxi-Clean spray stain remover, and then soaking it overnight in warm water with a scoop of the Dollar Tree brand Oxi-clean substitute, then air drying until laundry day. Since my clothes don't get heavily soiled and since I pre-treat, I feel safe using a cheaper brand of detergent, and I like the results I'm getting, but money is want to get the maximum possible loads of laundry out of every bottle.

I have a dawn antibacterial dish washing soap and the date on the bottle is in three months. Is it still safe to use? Also, if you use soap past the date does it not kill germs and/or can it be toxic?

  • Is a wet dry vac a good replacement for a regular vacuum cleaner?

I need a new vacuum cleaner and I'm thinking of replacing it with a wet dry vac. Is that practical? I'm just wondering if there are still things I would need a regular vacuum for. Are wet dry vacs too heavy/bulky for vacuuming stairs? Do they pick up as much fine dust? Are they messy to empty?
