• Am I being scammed or is this behavior normal in the granite/fabrication industry?

I am working with this independent fabricator. I already gave him a check for countertop deposit. I never sign anything but he gave me a receipt for material and work. I have been to his shop. He has made too many excuses and no shows. He has only came to measure after the third no show. He texts says he's working on it and texts a picture of someone in a mask fabricating a piece of granite but not his face. He has also trying to selling me plumbing, cabinet installation. I never asked and said I am on tight budget. I found his company on google. It took me awhile to find his previous company but the 4 reviews are all bad. They say he delays things, he's a fraud, bad work, etc. he hasn't provided me with any receipts for granite that says he bought nor offered to see the work at his shop. I called the granite warehouse, and they say they deliver the granite to him. I asked him hows the countertop is coming, but he replies with I stopped working on it because you haven't made up your mind on cabinets. I am concerned. He seemed legitimate when I met him at slab warehouse and the people seemed like they knew him. Am I being scammed or am I worrying for no reason?

  • Why is everyone against Donald trumps wall?

When I first heard about it, I gave into the liberal propaganda and thought wow he's such a bad person. But suddenly it just hit me, he's not really doing anything bad.... My home gets its water from a well and I am concerned that my wilting plants are due to issues with the well water. Maybe I am over watering. Any advice?

  • Why do I have oval holes when using a drill?

Best answer: Your probably not drilling straight. Please consider using a drill guide jig. Very easy to make, take a piece of scrap wood (2″ x 4″, 1” x 4″ whatever 4″ to 6″ long) cut a 90 degree notch in one end. Place your drill bit in the corner of the notch and keep the bit parallel with the two sides. I’ve a $20 drill... show more

I’ve a $20 drill guide hanging on the wall of my shop, the notched 2″ x 4″ works better.

Also practice, practice, practice, practice, you will get the hang of drilling straight sooner or later.

  • Why do woodworkers recommend owning a drill press?

Best answer: Try this and see for yourself. Take a block of wood, say a cut off from a pine stud. Drill a hole with a bit the same diameter as a piece of dowel you have handy at least 250mm long (around 10″) make the hole 32mm deep (or exactly 1.25″ in the old money) then tap the dowel into the hole. Now check your work. Get... show more

    Now check your work.

Get a square and measure the angle - all the way to the top and all the way around. Mark the point where the dowel meets the block with a finely sharpened pencil. Pull it out and measure how deep your hole is.

If you get either measurement closer than a couple of mm out at the top of your dowel, I owe you a beer.

Now consider that any woodworker with even a modest drill press can make forty of those holes in ten minutes every single one, effectively the same as all of the others.

Possibly contaminating the water with ecoli or something else bad????

  • My son put very wet clothes into my Whirlpool dryer WED6400SW0. The dryer smells burnt and wouldnt start drying. What should I do to fix it?

Best answer: Unplug it immediately, or flip the circuit breaker to the dryer. Call a Whilrpool authorized repair guy, and DON'T mess with it yourself. It sounds as if you may have burned out something with the excess water, and that could cause an electrical fire in your house. Let someone who is qualified handle this, or... show more

Let someone who is qualified handle this, or you could be talking to your insurance company about how they aren't honoring your homeowner's insurance to replace your house.
