This morning, I feel pretty much the same except I'm sneezing every 15 min and my ears feel blocked. I don't have a thermometer, but my dad touched my forehead and said I don't feel hot. I don't have a headache either, but my back is a little achey. Aside from that, I still have the energy to do some errands around the house. Do I have a cold or the flu?

I was treated for a kidney infection two days ago (3rd one in three months) and given an antibiotic that was for a bladder infection. I saw it clearly wasn't working and went to the ER last night and was given a prescription for another antibiotic HOWEVER today is thanksgiving and there are literally no pharmacies open until 9 am tomorrow. I'm not super comfortable being off antibiotics for one day considering how much pain I'm in. I have some expired Bactrim (3 years) and some expired Cup to both of which are used to treat kidney infections. My question is should I take one or two today and hope they do something or just ride it out?

I never did any research into it so I don t know anything about it, and wanted to try. I only briefly read other responses on here and it seems to be kind of mixed, and would maybe like a more definitive answer. I think most ppl have said that it is generally safe but that there is a slight chance of contracting salmonella. Some have suggested pasteurized egg if you really want to reduce the chance but I don t think would pay the extra cost. Are the chances of contracting salmonella high, does anyone have any personal exp of eating raw eggs for years and still be fine (healthy)? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank You

She washed her hands right after quickly, but I am nit sure if it was enough! She then still prepared all the food she was preparing. I am now worried that if she touched it, then touched something else, and we all touched it, that we could now get a cold sore! Is it plausible to get it this way? I know you don't share utensils or food or anything like that, but could we get it from touching? Also, now that I think of it, I am not sure if she kissed my cheek on the way out or not when I gave her a hug! I went to sleep on my pillow! HELP!

  • How can you get smallpox in this day and age?

Best answer: Pretty hard, actually. The remaining samples are well-protected.

If you want a good, solid, scary disease, try The Plague (a.k.a. The Black Death). You can get that in Madagascar. But hurry up; they're getting this outbreak under control pretty quickly.

Unless you live in a very rural place where people don't take responsibility for their pets, basically all dogs are vaccinated against rabies once they are old enough to have the shot.

Rabies is actually hard to catch. It requires not only that the animal be infected for a certain amount of time so it's really sick, but that their saliva or blood be transferred INTO your body. there have even been reports of people being bitten by a rabid dog who haven't become infected.

Rabies is known as so dangerous, because once you actually do become infected, you have a very short time in which it can be stopped, or you will die of it. But in fact, it isn't easy to get at all, and the fact that almost all dogs are vaccinated also means that even dogs that aren't vaccinated have fewer places even to find the infection.

If you were kissed by a dog, you're almost certainly safe. I'm around pet dogs all the time, and no one has ever gotten rabies. If you look it up on the internet, it is very very rare. If you tried, you'd have trouble even if you were trying to get it.

I had a scare once with a sick raccoon, and spent all night looking this up. In the morning, I spoke to my doctor, but I also spoke to an infectious disease specialist at a world class hospital who happens to have one of those pet dogs. he said I had found all the right stuff, and if I wanted, I could get the shots, but he would feel confident inn saying I hadn't been exposed enough to get it. I didn't, and five years later, I'm still here :-)

So really, you aren't going to get rabies from a well kept pet dog. the vet would have made sure the dog got its shot at four months, and by law in most places, you have to have it up to date. the more you know about science, the more you know the truth, and the less you have to worry about stuff that isn't going to hurt you. I promise.

We're going tomorrow because the hospitals are closed at this time)

You may have read about what was referred to as "trench mouth" during WWI. Trench mouth is a periodontal infection that causes swelling and ulcers in the gums. and can ultimately lead to tooth loss. The term "trench mouth" comes from WW I, when this infection was common among soldiers "in the trenches", who had to spend months or years without any sort of dental hygiene. It was not caused by "sabotaged toothbrushes", because they HAD no toothbrushes of ANY kind readily available to troops on either side who were in the trenches during WWI.
