It looks like there are no electronics in the battery box so wash it in running water for half a minute or so. The acid is water soluble, and if you don't wash it out with water it will continue to corrode the contacts. Clean the battery contacts (where they touch the batteries) with Scotchbrite or fine sandpaper - 120 grit or finer. 300 grit works well. The battery case may not be repairable but you have nothing to lose by trying.

They used to be very expensive, like several hundred dollars for the lowest-end. They are a high-end brand.

The stand to hold the iron is the standard soldering station style. The sponge to wipe your tip is handy. Make sure you can get replacement tips of different sizes, and I would order them now. It's nice that it has a temperature control that you can grab and twist rather than buttons, which take more time/thought.

Also get tip cleaner for when burnt flux and crud builds up on the tip. You can stick the little round can of it right on the iron station so it's always handy.

Get a no-clean flux pin to help the solder flow.

If you're doing fine-pitch work, you'll eventually want a good magnifying glass, even if you have good eyes. You also want a little rubbing alcohol dispenser and a tooth brush to clean away crud.
