My boyfriend and I are trying to move out of my dads place. I’ve heard that a lot of places for rent need a credit check and some type of credit history. A year ago we tried making a payment plan for something and we learned that neither one of us had a good enough credit history even though we have had our debit cards for 5 years and used them in the past (we stopped 6 months ago and we started saving instead). So debit cards really don’t count as credit history? We want to avoid getting credit cards because we aren’t spending money. We’re just saving. My dad pays for everything (besides our transportation to our jobs) and no my dad doesn’t have a credit card either but he makes a lot of money so I’m sure that’s why he’s been able to do without it. My boyfriend and I aren’t getting along with my dad so my dad can’t help us. If my dad knew of our plans he would actually kick us out and we would have no where to go so we have to be quiet about it. My dad is just crazy like that and very controlling. We just need to get out of here as soon as possible. We have enough money saved up and my boyfriend has a good job that he has had for 2 years now. This whole credit thing is really scaring me though. I just want to know if we can move into an apartment without a credit card.

  • I used my brothers debit card to order items. Mostly clothing. What do i do? I feel sh***y?

Best answer: Of course he will know. You took the money right out of his bank. A debit card is not a credit card. It empties the account at the bank. You better tell him or he will try to buy food or gas with his debit and not be able to if all the money is gone.

I just started my very first internship, and i'm ashamed to say that I don't understand how bi-weekly payment is set up. I thought it sounded quite simple when the HR lady was telling me about it, you essentially get paid every two weeks, and that's pretty much all there is to it, right? I guess that's not how it works for your first and last check. For some more context, I started working on June 11th. I was told that there is a bi-weekly payday on the 15th and 30th, and I, of course, was not paid for the 5 days of work from the 11th-15th (though I still clocked in slightly over 40 hrs nonetheless). Thus, I was wondering if my first check, which will presumably and hopefully arrive on the 30th, will include the wages I earned from the 11th-15th. In essence, will my first paycheck be current with all my hours worked, or is there some underlying factor that I'm missing? Thanks for any advice/help!

Best answer: If this is a subscription you have no intention to purchasing or utilizing, CONTACT YOUR PARENTS IMMEDIATELY.

Be honest with your parents & provide as much information about the charge in question (like the company, the amount in question & when it was incurred) so your parents can contact the credit card company to request a chargeback. The faster they react, the better the chance of success. PLEASE BE AWARE THAT CHARGEBACKS WILL RESULT IN THE COMPANY THAT THE PAYMENT WAS INTENDED FOR TO BAN YOUR ACCOUNT & BLOCK THE CARD FOR FUTURE SUBSCRIPTION (as companies consider it as "Payment Fraud").

If it's a subscription you're intending to keep, update the payment information IMMEDIATELY (so it will go to your own card next month) or discontinue any renewal options. Then notify your parents & reimburse them for the subscription charge. You don't have to go into as many details about the charge (only the amount of the charge) with your parents & you're making an effort to fix the error, so they can't be too annoyed about it.

I had a similar mishap when I made two purchases (both one-time deals) on my parent's card (since their card is on file because of a family subscription we share) as I didn't pay attention to who's card was being used until AFTER I had the e-mail receipts. I just reimbursed them for those purchases (I actually gave them a little extra as I didn't want to deal with small change & the ATM only does withdrawals in $20's) & noted the charges so they're aware of them (& not challenge them on their bill). They may not have been thrilled about what happened, but they didn't seem to mind as I covered the charges.

Hope this sheds some light on the subject.

  • Will taking out a small loan help improve my credit soon?

I recently paid off one of my loans and my credit dropped 15 points! If I take out another small loan of a similar size will my credit rebound fairly soon? I was steadily ticking up, and was almost in a bracket where I was going to apply for a big business loan.

  • I got a letter in the mail from American express for a ten year old bill. do I pay it?

Best answer: Not without first calling American Express directly and asking them about it. Do NOT use the contact information, including the phone number, on the letter. Look up customer service online and go through that. It's likely a scam.

  • Can making restitution payments help build my credit score?

    Best answer: No, it can't.

Since it is not borrowed money, it does not prove that you can pay back money you have borrowed.

Best answer: CAUTION: THIS IS NOT PROPER LEGAL ADVICE, AS I AM NOT A LAWYER (nor do I pretend to be one... unless the game's protagonist is a lawyer). IT'S RECOMMENDED TO CONSULT A LEGAL EXPERT BEFORE PROCEEDING.

The debt collection agency is REQUIRED to provide proof of the debt in question, including who the debt was originally with & any related information (like account numbers) as well as if the debt is time-barred, IN WRITING. The agency is must be able to provide a paper trail to the originator of the debt if they wish to collect upon it, otherwise it becomes their word against yours & the burden of proof falls upon the collection agency (as you never did business with said agency).

If the agency cannot provide such proof & the issue goes to court, you can have the debt in question dismissed.

There's also the question of the AGE OF THE DEBT to be considered, as most states have a statute of limitations on debts where it can be declared uncollectable if there's no payments made on said debt NOR ACKNOWLEDGE the validity of the debt for a certain number of years (which varies between 3 - 10 years). Therefore, it is CRITICAL that you challenge any debts you're notified as any acknowledgement or payment (no matter how small) on said debt will reset that statute of limitation.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Please be aware that the Statute of Limitations on any debt only prevents creditors & debt collectors from pursuing any legal actions against you (including threats) NOR to report the debt to the credit reporting corporations (as it would be a violation of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.

The debt in question (even if valid & outside the Statute of Limitations) still exists & the holders of the debt (the creditors or the debt collectors) can still request payment on them. The Statute of Limitations just prevents them from pursuing legal actions & threats against you.

While I hope this sheds some light on the subject, it's best to consult a legal expert in this matter for more relevant information.

Mayonnaise has a smooth mouth feel and a very slight bite from the vinegar it contains. It adds moisture to sandwiches and salads containing fish or various carbs like pasta or rice.
