Best answer: Jehovah's Witnesses do not celebrate Christmas because of their reasoning on Ephesians 5:10, 11 and 1 Corinthians 10:20, 21, among other scriptures. More on that in a moment, please.

I found it exceedingly curious that one person’s response, rather than giving a factual explanation for why Jehovah's Witnesses do not celebrate Christmas, simply proceeded to inform all of the many things he feels are wrong about them. You have heard it often: they “blindly” obey the Watchtower Society and the governing body, they judge others as evil if they put one day above another, they have no problem with hypocrisy since they call the fourth day of the week Wednesday. Gasp! incidentally, in America, Monday is the first day of the week according to the international standard which makes Thursday the fourth day. But in the U.S, Canada and Japan, Monday is the second day of the week which would make Wednesday the fourth day. So I guess where you live determines whether you are a hypocrite when it comes to the day of the week. But yes, Jehovah's Witnesses still call the day Wednesday. Seriously, what do you think this person would have them call it? Most of the world operates on the Gregorian calendar (introduced by Pope Gregory XIII) which came into existence in the 16th century. Before then, folks were on the Julian calendar - introduced in 46 B.C.E. when Julius Caesar issued a decree changing the Roman calendar from a lunar year to a solar year. August was named after Augustus Caesar; July after Julius, June after Juno queen of the gods. Christians of the first century used the names of these months with no problem and they were not censured for this. They most assuredly were not being hypocritical and there is no basis upon which to make such a contention. This person’s attempt at applying reason with the use of calling the names of the week as an example of the so-called hypocrisy of the Witnesses bears no resemblance to reason at all.

Jehovah's Witnesses do not judge anyone respecting Christmas. People ask us why we do not celebrate it, we give them a scriptural answer and then the people get upset and say we “judge them.” How silly is that? If you want to celebrate Christmas, do it.

Jehovah's Witnesses do not celebrate Christmas because of their reasoning on Ephesians 5:10, 11 and 1 Corinthians 10:20, 21, among other scriptures.
It is well-established that Christmas and its attendant features are pagan in origin and have unsavory beginnings. Although many attempt to apply Biblical scenarios to their activities of Christmas, such is not the case. For instance, the exchanging of gifts at Christmas is not based on what the magi did. They did not exchange gifts with people, they gave gifts to the child. Moreover, they did not arrive on Christ’s birthday. By the time they got there, Jesus was living in a house with his parents. Moreover, the sorcerers (yes sorcerers) were not there to celebrate Christ’s birthday and they most assuredly were not there to worship him. They were pagans, they worshipped false gods. By their own admission, they were looking for the one ‘born king of the Jews.” Why? Anciently, it was the practice to present kings with gifts. Compare for instance 1 Kings 10:1, 10 and 1 Samuel 10:24, 27.

Why would worshippers taint pure worship with pagan idolatrous practices? God roundly condemns that. Every time the ancient Hebrews did it, they were severely punished and fell out of favor with God. When they participated in festivals for Baal, and continued to try to serve God, God was incensed! And what was his response when they made that golden calf? They has JUST told God that were willing to follow all of his commandments including the first one regarding idolatry. But what had they learned in Egypt? See Joshua 24:21. Now they were to put away all of their idolatrous practices and worship only Jehovah and this they said they were willing to do. Do we think they thought that calf was Jehovah? Of course not. They decided they needed a visual since Moses was taking so long and they concluded that an Egyptian idol would give them just what they needed. Meantime, they would just continue to worship Jehovah. Three thousand were put to death that very day. It is as Paul says under inspiration at 1 Corinthians 10:21, you cannot partake of the table of the demons and the table of Jehovah. Jehovah is not having it.

There is much more scripturally on which to reason but this should be sufficient to serve as explanation for why Jehovah's Witnesses remain far away from anything that is tainted by false worship, idolatry, false religion. You simply cannot separate Christmas and its features from its false worship. The practice itself did not even come into existence until the fourth century. Jehovah's Witnesses refrain because they do not wish to damage, jeopardize or destroy their relationship with the Sovereign Lord God Jehovah. They wish to honor, respect and glorify both Jehovah God and our reigning king Christ Jesus. This means making sure of what pleases them and rejecting anything that dishonors or disrespects them, no matter how pretty that thing seems to be. Christmas dishonors and disrespects Jehovah God and Jesus Christ.

Best answer: The 70s were great years. There seemed to be tons of money around, everyone could afford a good car, jobs were plentiful, wages were good and all sorts of new electrical appliances became available. There was little violence and most people only had to work 40 hours and little overtime. Only one parent had to work and generally mom was home waiting for you with a snack. Mothers cooked nice nutritious healthy home made meals and fat kids were very rare. There was plenty of free time and there seemed to be space. Kids rode their bikes around the neighbourhood without fear of violence or paedophiles. There were no video games or cell phones and people actually talked to each other rather than just looked and played with their phones. Kids played active sport and games and were very healthy. This good health meant there were very few with Asthma or nut allergies and kids looked and were active and healthy. Literacy and numeracy were very high and kids overall were respectful and reasonably well behaved but those school kids who misbehaved could expect several whacks of the cane on the palms of their hands or on their buttocks. Parents divorced rarely and kids had the security of having at least one parent at home all the time. Today many kids miss the important lessons a father or mother teaches them and many kids have strange beliefs of how they are supposed to be. Many boys have this belief they must be tough and able to be violent instead of being decent people. Drugs were not a big thing back then so there was way less psychotic behaviour or crime. There was some air pollution was in the cities but overall the world was way less polluted.
These days cities are way more crowded and all the spare spaces are not full of housing. Money seems to always be short of what you really need so many families now have both parents working. Kids now come home from school to an empty home and mom brings high caloried fattening take out food as they don't have the time or energy to cook evening meals. Now at least 25% of kids are obese who do no real exercise all heading for an early death because they will never be healthy. Kids tend to be spoiled with expensive electronics and other things as compensation for not having parents around much supposedly as a replacement for the love and affection kids were missing out on. Young people take drugs like sweets not realising the damage they are doing to their health and mental state.
I feel sorry for the young these days as it is a different world from 50 years ago and young people have much more struggles than years ago. I think country people overall seem to live more the way people should live with less stress and a more active life. Housing tends to be more affordable in the country and people seem to be more friendly and there tends to be way less crime. Country communities seem to work and socialise together whereas many city communities demand the government give them what they need. Many country people set up their own community facilities and community events and the fact they know each other tends to create security in a district that was lost years ago min cities who quite often do not even know the names of their neighbours.
I believe we were much better off back then and likely the young people of the time likely they were the luckiest generation in history.

  • Should people with preexisting conditions just rely on charity instead of getting affordable health care?

Best answer: They should just go to the emergency room so it costs more, and then not pay the bill so it gets written off to the government. It's such a better system than the cheaper solution of people being able to go to the doctor before their condition gets out of hand.

For trucks and cars, get 50# sand bags (usually two or three do the trick depending on how large your vehicle is. Have a block heater to keep your engine warm. Slow down before the stop signs and lights, use your gears (yes even if you have an automatic). Stay back from others and keep out of the packs of cars that grow on a freeway or expressway. Most of all, use your judgement. Drivers who are scared, or ones who don't have enough experience driving in treacherous winter conditions need to either move or do yourself a favor and practice putting your vehicle into slides in private areas where you wont' hurt anyone. See what it feels like to spin out, all the way around, and what it will take you to stop if you jam on your breaks at the last minute. When you first hit the road, and your not sure of how icy it is....wait till no vehicles are behind you, and slam on the breaks. See how bad you slide. Then you know what your dealing with and know you better keep the speed down, attention to the road and not your phone, and use caution. Survived this long doing all this without incident in a place that most runaway crying from because of the cold. Don't be afraid to drive in the winter, you make yourself a target. Either get ok with it, or park it till the spring. Other drivers will thank you for not causing more accidents.

I'm a 24 year old male and my life is truly pathetic. I still live at home because I can't afford my own apartment and I have a part time, dead end, nearly minimum wage job as a groundskeeper for an apartment complex. I have a list of health and mental problems which keep me from improving my life, the biggest one being panic disorder. Every time I try to get a better job, I have a panic attack on the job interview because I get so nervous and have to excuse myself. I've tried so many times, but all I end up doing is torturing myself and losing the opportunity to ever work there because they think I'm crazy for panicking. I'm severely depressed and have no desire to do anything at all, including things I used to love. I can't even seem to pay attention to a TV show that I like anymore. I spend all of my time alone, including my time at work. I have no friends and no girlfriend. I do think of death a lot and I want it, but I'm too scared to go through with it because I'm a coward. Please don't suggest I go to school because school is not for me. I couldn't even make it through high school and ended up getting a GED instead. What I want is to get hired at a reputable company that will pay enough for me to support myself after putting in 5+ years or so. I know that they're out there, but I can't make it happen because I panic without fail every time and lose the opportunity to work there. I feel so defeated and hopeless and I'm suffering. If you were me, what would you do?
