• What do you think would be a reasonable price (in U.S. dollars) to have someone remove and dispose of fallen autumn leaves?

My lot is a quarter acre (minus the garage and house areas) and there are 3 large maple trees on the property.

  • What are the differences between a mobile home and a modular home? Neighbour got a 20 X 76 home and insists it's a modular home?

Best answer: The primary difference is in the construction. A modular home uses 2 x 6 material on the exterior walls and has a trussed roof. They are also better insulated. Both are constructed on a steel frame that can be moved on wheels. Depended on local bylaws neither has to be mounted on a solid foundation. In my area... show more

Both are constructed on a steel frame that can be moved on wheels. Depended on local bylaws neither has to be mounted on a solid foundation. In my area both may be mounted on wood pilings and the bottom skirted.

The local mobile home park in my area allows either type of home providing they are not permanently located and the wheels removed.

My cactus is turning red! What should I do??

Best answer: If it's soft, it's rotten. But if it's still firm then this is just a response to lack of water (did anyone water it while you were away?), and will recover if watered. It it is rot, then this is almost certainly caused by over-watering. Cacti need watering once a month at most. I water mine about four times a year, and they are perfectly healthy (although admittedly they don't grow very much).

  • Is this a fire hazard?

Best answer: Yes, it's a fire hazard.

The stalled motor is drawing more current than normal, as it fights the stall. You're feeling that as heat.

If you don't know how to disconnect the motor and cap the wires, discard the ornament, or use it without electricity.

Best answer: It's amazing how many people on here think that "locks" will protect "everything"! Simply not true! Locks only stop "honest" people! Given the proper tools and time, almost "any" lock can be rendered useless.

The one thing that most dishonest people fear is witnesses.
    - install cameras - even fake ones deter thieves.
    - Make your house visible to others - Bushes and trees provide opportunities for thieves to hide their activities.
    - Open stockade fences are the worst - Keep them locked and put up "beware of dog" signs.
    - Talk to your neighbors - Let them know, it's OK to call Police if they see something suspicious.

Being safe and secure can be easy if you "routinely" stay aware of possible threats and proactively avoid them.

I’m a teenager in college, and my family is very poor (I can go to college because I live in an European country where it’s almost free to pursue higher education, but the taxes are very high and keep my single mom down in poverty). I recently learned that they’ll be building villas behind my shitty little row house in 2019. How do I deal with constantly seeing people living much better than me. I can’t even afford a fence at the back of our garden, so it’s even worse knowing they’ll be able to see how shitty we live. Any advice on how to deal with this would be appreciated :)

  • How can I stay warm in the winter...on a tight budget?

All the tips I see are things like leaving heating on low or insulting the building, which don't work for those of us who are poor. Unless it's using something I already have or isn't more than maybe £10 it's a no go for me. Other than laying clothing, is there anything else?

These are only a few examples but I remember in the past my parents and grandparent's appliances would last decades. It seems appliances made within the last decade or so are just junk. Why is this?
