  • Is dessert its own meal or is it a part of dinner?

Best answer: I would consider it to be part of a meal. In China it is typical to have 6 or more courses during the evening meal and dessert could be considered just one more course.
But I never buy dessert at a diner because too many make desserts large enough to be a meal in themselves.

  • Should I get a Costco membership if I don't drive?

Best answer: I don't know how anyone else can make that decision for you. We don't know what you're likely to buy or how much of it, whether you have freezer or cupboard space to store bulk purchases, or anything else about your situation that has some bearing on whether shopping at Costco is a good idea or not. If you're only 4 km away and there is taxi service, I don't know why it matters whether or not you drive, except you clearly won't be buying gas there.

I live alone and do at least half my grocery shopping at Costco. I have a freezer. I have space to store bulk purchases. Costco sells more than food.
My membership costs around $120 a year and every year I get a rebate of around $60 based on what I buy. By buying things when they go on sale, I probably save at least $10 over Costco's regular prices every time I shop there, and Costco's regular prices are almost always cheaper than anywhere else in town. In effect, the membership more than pays for itself even with just grocery shopping since I don't often buy anything else.

  • Do you ever shop at the Farmers Market?

Best answer: We have the crappiest farmers markets in my neighborhood. I go a lot and buy very infrequently. Sometimes fun stuff turns up (tromboncino squash, fresh fava beans, black radishes, teeny-tiny carrots, easter egg radishes, etc.) and I'll buy.

I also know that other farmers markets in my city (but not near me) have much greater assortments and are probably worth going to.

This is just off the top of my head... Worth bearing in mind that also every other fresh veg will keep for a couple of days in a cool, dark place. They come from a farm or allotment into your home, they haven't been cold until you've took them home. If you're buying to eat immediately or within a couple of days, most fruit and veg will be fine. It's not like meat where it needs certain temps to avoid food poisoning.

  • Is Chex Mix a salad?

Best answer: I checked the Merriam-Webster definition of salad. It gives 3 definitions: 1) A mix of cold vegetables, 2) A green vegetable frequently used in salads and 3) an incongruous mixture or hodgepodge (jumble). So, Chex Mix seems to meet the criteria for the least popular definition. Still, you're not likely to... show more
