BTW - I was an extra in Her Alibi (1989). Was working in downtown Baltimore when they were filming. Was standing in the crowd wearing my suit and tie watching them film a courtroom scene. They asked me to be in the scene. I had to sign a waiver, but I have 3 seconds of screen time. I can alway see what I looked like when I was 25 years old (and still had hair.)

Best answer: I don't get it, either. It's a bit of a cultural phenomena like many other films, with a somewhat disturbingly obsessive following. The screenings in particular were and are an event in themselves, with numerous cosplayers before it was called cosplay, attendees engaged in such things as dancing or shouting, throwing toilet paper, or spraying lotion at the screen with squirt guns at key moments. There were certainly some catchy tunes in the movie. But overall it is a typical, albeit more risque, type of musical.
