Don't want to act rich and spoiled and brag, I just want to ask a simple question. My parents won't tell me their salaries and like wether or not were rich or middle class or whatever. The thing also with my parents is that they really don't want us to act spoiled and stuff, so they don't necessarily get all the things that we could have cuz of that. My mom works and my dad is retired. My mom is a Stanford University grad and my dad is a MIT grad. My house cost 3 million dollars(i know for a fact) and like not to act spoiled or anything but I basically get whatever I want when its something useful. For example, I can get cloths whenever I want but my parents won't buy me the newest Iphone every time it comes out cuz like i obviously don't need that. I also used to like in NYC in an apartment where I went to a bilingual private school but I recently moved to Westchester, NY where I got a house. Again, I don't want to brag to anyone because I know i'm very very very very very lucky for what I have but could you estimate how much my mom makes? My dad also invests in our money, he said that like half of the money we have is from him investing. And I think my mom is some kind of portfolio manager for Columbia Threadledee Investments. Again please don't call me rich and spoiled and say i'm mean for saying this, I just want to ask. And sorry for writing so much.

Best answer: First of all, good job for being willing to do custodial work even though it's not in your desired field. It's refreshing to see someone with a good work ethic, who wants to work whether it's exactly the position they desire. It seems like most employees today have a huge entitlement mentality and believe they deserve the exact position they want with big bucks attached. Now it's not a matter of getting a job, it's a matter of working your way up the ladder in life.

If what you're saying is true, they're being abusive. If you went in thinking it was an IT position for $18 an hour, then once they got you in they paid you $10 an hour for custodial work, that's bait and switch. It is a problem to communicate on your resume and in interviews however. You for sure don't want to badmouth your current company to any prospective employers. What to do?

I always recommend figuring out a way to tell the truth rather than trying to concoct some stupid false story to forward your agenda.

Consider this approach. They're not going to contact any references until they've reviewed your resume and interviewed you. List the company as you would any other, along with reference contact information. Don't mention any conflict in your resume. In the interview itself, how about this?

"I need to move on from my current position because I had a mistaken impression of what the job duties would be. I love IT, I'm good at it, but right now I'm unable to work in the field I'm qualified for."

There, it's true, and you're taking 100% accountability yourself, not badmouthing the company. Just a suggestion.

Best answer: Are you currently in college? or do you already have a degree? Knowing this information can help me better answer your question with the best advice I can give.

I am currently working in a similar position as you are, I work 40 hours (full time), BUT because it is full time, It is taking away my time from attending college so I can attain my degree, so I plain on quitting next month. I got great experience out of it though.

& yes, I totally understand.. still, 37 hours is CLOSE to full time hours, BUT for instance in my situation - I do not see myself working for this construction company for the rest of my life.. (A friend got me this position - and they pay me awesome, but it is also super stressful and I just am plainly NOT interested in staying here forever.) Also - I, too, work in a male dominated OLDER company, no females, let alone people in their mid 20's at my job so it DOES get lonely! lol

People work full time in their careers, (40 or more so hours).. that is something you will have to deal with in terms of your career.

but because you DISLIKE your current position (as it sounds like..) and you do not want to work there for the rest of your life (again... assuming..) then look for something else, and/ OR finish your degree so you can get an entry level job in a field that interests you more and of course, pays you more.

You just started this job, and it's okay to feel the way you feel at first, most people feel this way, it wasn't what they expect, give yourself sometime to get used to it... if you REALLY hate it after a month or two, THEN find another job.

    Good luck.

P.S If you dislike something or it does not fulfill you in any way - then make changes to better your life.

Hi, I m a paralegal and I have to do the legwork on this. I get that I shouldn t rely on yahoo answers for this, but in hoping this can point me in the right direction. About client: Has been living in the same apartment for years. Lease is yearly. Has been paying rent late the last year or so so he doesn t think they would allow him to renew lease this time. Lease is up at the end of Nov (so a little over a week from now). He asked the landlord s manager about a month ago if he d be allowed to renew, she said she did not know and would get back to him. Never did. Now he just emailed the landlord s assistant today asking if he can renew the lease and if not, if he can have an extra 30 days; she emailed him back saying she will get back to him on that. Again, lease is up in a little over a week. I think there is some sort of clause stating they must give him ample amount of time if they choose not to let him renew the lease. They have not. Anyone will legal knowledge on what his rights are? Citations appreciated. Thanks!
