We will most likely accept a job offer made to my husband in that area, and we are concerned with the quality of life. Any school preference? Do you consider that there is enough for the kids to do in the community? How about sports teams such as basketball and soccer for them? Is it too hard to find childcare when the children have no school?
Have you struggled with basic services such as finding pediatricians, specialists without having to go to Riverside or LA?
Any neighborhood you would need to avoid? Drug issues at schools that you know of/have heard of? Do you see your family living there long-term?
I am also concerned if having LA so close has a negative influence in the community, and being the cost of living so high if you feel that jobs pay enough in general terms.
Any and all info, pros, cons, concerns, praise, etc on the Valley will be well appreciated. My kids are boys, by the way, ages1 AnswerLos Angeles1 decade ago
I live in one of those 'great' places people call 'paradise', but it is not a great place for a growing family that wants to move ahead, buy a house and settle for more than 5 years, and find that lots of people are moving out. I can't wait to move, either and I'm looking for a place where we can buy a house and live confortably and raise my boys.
We have been offered a job in Buffalo, NY, and we are seriously considering it. We are used to hot summers, and think we can handle the 4-5 months of snow.
If you used to live there, what made you move out? We don't want to spend the next 7 years in a place we can't bear, or in a city we don't get.Would you consider the city beautiful? How are schools? Can kids play safely outside? Is pollution really bad? Are there any 'great' doctors and specialists in the area?(more than 2 would be great). Did you find that your insurance was widely accepted if you had it? Any information pro or con will greatly help. Thanks for your honest answers!4 AnswersOther - United States1 decade ago
I have been thinking about getting a tattoo with my 2 children's initials and getting it on my chest, close to my heart, because I think is the most appropriate place for a tattoo like this. I am pretty conservative so I would like it to be small. I don't want hearts or flowers or baby items included in the design, and this would be my very first and I expect only tattoo.
Only serious answers, please. This is very important to me.14 AnswersTattoos1 decade ago
She has been trying to concieve for a couple of years, and finally decided to get help. She is new to her area, and does not know many people so she went with on OB GYN that used the word 'fertility' in her advertising credentials. She was placed immediately in ovulation pills after a routine PAP, and her husband ordered a sperm count. Apparently the OB GYN did not tell them what the results of the count meant and said 'I think they are OK' and when pressed for a more concrete answer she did not give them one. Also wanted to do a laparoscopy to check for obstruction in the fallopian tubes THREE months after having my sister in the ovulation pills. On their last appointment last week. When my sis and hubby told her that they really wanted results to conceive soon, she referred to a specialist. Wasn't she supposed to be one in the first place? Shouldn't she have the word 'fertility' removed from her ad if she needs to refer to help a couple conceive? Should they sue for their lost time?8 AnswersTrying to Conceive1 decade ago

My husband will soon be promoted within his company, and we could be asked to go virtually anywhere in the continental US. We have been comparing statistics like cost of living, etc, out of several websites, but those numbers do not tell the whole story.
If you could answer by personal experience, even better. We have two children under 10.15 AnswersOther - Society & Culture1 decade ago
