So I attended a workshop on teaching students of poverty. They made it clear that students from little economic means do not respond to punishments that involve taking away something. (recess, tickets, monetary system, etc.) The argument was that these kids are used to having things taken away ie: water or electricity shut-off, evicted from their home, etc.) that they come to expect it. Thus they don't feel disappointment when a teacher does it. So what do you do or could I do to make consequences for late work, inappropriate behavior, etc.?7 AnswersTeaching1 decade ago
If you had an indicator based math program, which printed custom worksheets, what would you want it to be able to do. (Sorry, it can't manage behavior.)1 AnswerTeaching1 decade ago
I am a first year 5th grade teacher looking for something engaging to do for my Revolutionary War unit. Any good websites or ideas for this?3 AnswersTeaching1 decade ago
I am la first year teacher and I need a good idea for commemorating my classes at the end of the year.?
I have seen autographed t-shirts before and yearbooks but I was wanting something I could display other than a photograph. Being a male teacher my first thought was a new baseball or football signed by the class each year. Any ideas?3 AnswersTeaching1 decade ago
