• Is this a Facebook scam or do you think this is legit?

So, about a month ago, I had added an old friend from high school, but she barely uses the account. But today, just out of the blue, she messages me, says hi, and then she called me on Messenger but I missed it. So I messaged her back, saying hey how are u? And then she replied, “I need a huge favor from someone, I’m gonna call u again.” So I... show more

And then she replied, “I need a huge favor from someone, I’m gonna call u again.” So I answered, but the call immediately got dropped. She called again, and then that got dropped. So she messages me instead, saying, “My mom passed away last night, she’s been sick for a while and I have to get to the funeral home but I ran out of gas. Would u help me with gas money? I’ll give it back to you when I get home and get my card.” I was going to reply but then I realized that this could be a scam, but at the same time, I don’t want to look like an idiot if this turns out to be a legit call for help. Has anyone ever gotten a similar message before?

  • Why doesn’t retail payroll ever take into account that their stores can get busy at any time?

At my store, we’re always severely short staffed in the months after Christmas. But the problem is that our store still gets busy more times than not. We can have a long line of customers while we’re stuck with only 2 cashiers out of 8 registers! And the customers start complaining, demanding that we open up more registers! So then we have to pull the floor employees off the floor to help us clear the line, while customers out on the floor make an even bigger mess while nobody’s out there to clean up! And sometimes when an employee calls out sick, payroll won’t allow us to call someone in or let someone work a double shift, so then we’re stuck with an even shorter staff!!

Can criminals steal your information using license plate numbers? With that logic, wouldn’t a parking lot be a gold mine for criminals?

  • Can we get in trouble for exploiting this loophole at my retail job?

Store policy says we’re allowed to hold items overnight for customers but we’re not allowed to hold our own items overnight. So I was ringing up one of my coworkers and her sister. She had asked me to hold something overnight and that we can do it if I write her sister’s name. So again, can we get in trouble for exploiting this loophole?

  • How do you think the receipt just mysteriously disappeared?

Today at my retail job, my customer had returns on 3 different receipts. I did the return on the first receipt. The second receipt’s items had no price tags. So I went to go print out new price tags. Came back, did that return. I then found that the third receipt was gone! So I said I’d have to give her back store credit without the receipt. So I went to go print out new price tags. Came back, did that return. I then found that the third receipt was gone! So I said I’d have to give her back store credit without the receipt. But she pleaded with me to give her back cash anyway. So my head cashier and manager both helped me look for the receipt. My head cashier even said she thought she saw it at some point. She eventually agreed to get store credit but she gave me an Ontario, Canada driver’s license, which is not valid in the US to make a return without receipt, so in the end, she had to take the item back home. So, what do you think might’ve happened here? I suggested maybe another customer mistakenly took it. What else do you think could’ve happened?

  • Why do some retail customers think that they’re above everyone else?

I’m a TJ Maxx cashier and instead of separate checkout lanes. All of our registers are right next to each other with call buttons and one big queue line. Whenever we have long lines, there’s always someone who would cut the entire line, entering the other way. We tell them where the line actually starts and they get angry at us!!!! • Can you get high off the smell of marijuana alone?

At my retail job, I was putting returned clothes on the rack and noticed one of the shirts had that skunk-like weed smell. So I put it off to the side where I was sure I wouldn’t be able to smell it. Could I have gotten high off it if I smelled it long enough?

This woman last night had her purse snatched by some idiot, along with her car keys, so she was stranded up until our store closed last night. She had called the cops but they said they were unable to do anything since the guy got away. Anyway, so my dad was outside to pick up my brother and I. We looked out the store window and we saw our dad, not knowing the situation inside, take the girl in our car because it was cold outside. And she had us drive her home about a half our out of our way. Could we get in trouble for this, since the cops were originally involved?

At my retail job, we have to deal with return scammers almost on a daily basis. Most of these scams are blatantly obvious, tickets not matching the items, old items not found in the system. And others are really good at it. Like today, a girl returned a shirt, I looked at it, nothing looked wrong with it, looked it up in the system, everything matched, the brand, color, everything. It was $30. I finished the return, and she left. But my head cashier told me the item was old and used. How are we supposed to prevent the most savvy return scammers like this?
