so i know why so time tor a technical lesson in audio sound.
a speaker in free air will sound rubbish. why because the sound coming out of the front of the speaker gets to the back of the speaker very easily as it has such a short path.
so the bass response is naff. time to get a baffle board to improve the sound. the size of this baffle board is the key to good bass sound. why because sound travels at 1500 feet per second. so the distance a 30 hertz bass sound travels a distance of 50 feet for the sound to be clear the baffle board needs to be some 50 feet in each direction if used as a flat board baffle. however if it put inside a box which is hymmetically sealed. and of strong enough construction as used on stage at rock concerts. then you can hear the real bass sounds other wise it will sound like it is rattling like a childs rattle. also damaging the speaker itself. the voice coil starts to heat up and the insulation starts to burn hence a smell. not burning exactly but fumes of the insulation lacquer used.
so why use a stonking great amplifier and not have the speaker mounted properly ends in disaster. the amplifier just burns out and the speaker is slowly destroyed.
