Hi I've got a broadband connection at home, and my modem has an inbuilt router. And I use wifi for everything.
My download speeds are usually at around 1 Mbps. If I'm downloading something from Steam, its at 2 Mbps.
However today my internet has been acting really funny. The connection has been constantly dropping and coming back online again. I called my ISP and they said everything was ok on their end. So then I went to my roof and examined the physical wire that connects to my modem in my house, and I couldn't find anything wrong. I then repeatedly tugged the wire and shook it, and then went back inside my house.
The connection seems to be stable now it isn't dropping anymore, but the download speed is now at only 400 kbps. I don't know if my tugging did anything to the connection or it was a coincidence.
I haven't exceeded my limit or anything and my speed has never dropped so low. I've had this connection for over 2 years. The weather has also been fine, no rain, no wind or storm.
Is it possible that any damage on the cable outside will have an effect on my internet speed? I would imagine that any damage to the cable would completely shut off the connection, not decrease the speed. I told my ISP to reset the connection at my house but it still didn't do anything.
