Hey. I'm a guitarist and singer.
Not a great singer, just average. I've noticed a very strange thing. When I record myself singing along to the guitar on my phone, it sounds pretty good. My voice sounds good and rich.
However when I record it through an SM57 mic (connected to an audio interface), my voice sounds really thin, weak and crappy. And yes I've made sure the gain was at the appropriate amount.
I have a high pitched, squeaky type voice (like Axl Rose...Not saying I'm as great as him, I'm just saying my voice is similar to him).
Why is this happening? No matter how much I mess with the EQ of my singing track, my voice always sounds bad when recording through the Shure Sm57 mic.
Should I get a different mic for my voice? Is the SM57 good for all types of voices or is it bad for my voice type?
Why does it sound good when recorded on the phone mic?
