Am i the only one that found this film {and yes, i do know the message it was putting across} vastly over rated and over hyped ? To me it really did nothing that Roots and Amistad had not already done and both did it better. I found it slow starting and far longer than it needed to be and to be honest i was about ready to switch it off after 20 minutes.

As a pensioner whose grand children are now adults i no longer buy them but i was watching a young mum buy three little Milk Choc ones the other week at £1.75 each. Looking at the 'egg' [they have no contents, just a shell] its' weight was just 65gms, or to old codgers like me around 2 1/2 ounces. £1.75 for 2 1/2oz of White Choc ? Rip off or what. Does anyone actually look at what they are getting for their money in Easter Eggs or do they buy purely on the enticing packaging? Just a comment, the confectionary trade has a long history of sneaky price increases' ~ they reduce the size of an item but leave it in the same packaging. After a couple of months the packaging reduces to a more appropriate size then hey presto, they introduce a 'New Bigger Size' item with a higher price that actually is the same size as the original one was.

I have just rescued my old Lenovo Think Centre desktop from the understairs cupboard where it has gathered dust for a couple of years for my son to use in his workshop. It had a legitimate copy of Microsoft Office 2007 in it but when i originally installed that i did not take up the option to save the installation files as i had the disc. I no longer have the disc (or cannot find it which is effectively the same thing) and my son has just replaced Win XP pro with Windows 7 and no files were carried forward. Now he did think to burn the Microsoft Office 2007 files to DVD using Nero before he did the o/s change. However, whilst he has all the Office files on the burned disc there are no setup/install files so he cannot put the program back in. Maybe he could copy and paste each and everyone of the myriad files making up the program but that would take ages and neither of us have any idea if that would produce a working Office 2007 program again. As you will gather, both he and i are long time computer users but know just enough to do what we do with our computers and nothing more so in real terms are probably not truly computer literate. Have any of you knowledgeable guys out there got any ideas' on how we can get the Office 2007 in and working again?

You will appreciate that you dont get much traffic late at night on rural roads and what there is are not inclined [understandably] to stop. My question is are there any payg sims that do not expire in 30 days and do not require you you have a monthly plan ? In the last 6 months i can only think of 3 times when i really needed the use of a mobile. To all of you who permanently have a mobile stuck to their ear you may find it weird that anyone should not want a mobile but believe me, i am actually sane. lol

Sorry but this will be a bit long winded but bear with me, desperately need some advice. One of my sons is a dual qualified tradesman and after 15 years as a wage slave last year decided to start up on his own and resigned from his full time job as of end of March last year and registered with HMRC as self employed from April last year.. Got his Government Gateway ID number and enrolled for the self Assessment service, got his UTR Unique Tax Reference number from HMRC. A couple of moths later he got a letter from HMRC saying that they would like him to do a tax return for the 2012/2013 year [don't see why as he paid tax via paye all of that year] and they included the forms for this, notifying him that the return must be done by the end of October, failing that he would have until end of January 2014 to file on line. As his new venture took off like a rocket right from day one filling in the paper return got a bit 'Bottom of the Pile'd but he filled in the return and posted it off in the third week of August, keeping a scanned copy for his files. So, that was that sorted. so we thought. Jump forward to December and he gets a letter from HMRC saying that they notice that he has still not submitted the requested Tax Return {Oh yes we have guys} and he now has until end of January 2014 to file it online. OK, we know HMRC handle countless million of documents a year and are permenently behind with their work load so he will play safe and do an on line return as well. Easy peasy, millions do it. Yeah, right ! log in to HMRC website with his Government Gateway ID and Password, choose Self Assessment Service and get "You are not authorised to use this service2. Try again, and again and again, "Access Denied". All right, lets re-enroll for the SA service ~ oops - "You are already enrolled for this service". Try to access it again same palaver. keep on trying and trying, cannot get it but some how manage to get 2 new Government Gateway Numbers and passwords. So in desperation lets use the suggested telephone helpline, hate these as you hang on for ages and time is money. never mind, phone the number suggested 0300 200 3600, put up with the we are very busy, please hang on bit, get to talk to a Human. Wow. Can hardly hear her over the back ground noise in her office but manage to explain the situation. Sorry, cannot help, you need to ring 0300 200 3504. OK, do that, sorry we are very busy blah blah. Sorry, cannot help you, you need to ring 0300 200 3310. **!!x*** Right, ring the 3310 number, sorry very busy etc but get through, sorry cannot help you, you need to ring 0300 200 3600. Yes, back where we started. Having already having to restrain my son from throwing my lap top at the wall now have to stop him ripping the phone line out of the wall. lol Problem is, come the last day of January if his original paper filing is still lost in the HMRC morass they will fine him £100 plus £10 a day up to £900, ie a possible total of £1000. We have worked out that at the time of posting this we have tried for almost 20 hours all told to get into that bleddy Self Assessment site without success. The old David and Goliath story is heartening but to be realistic we don't fancy the chances for one single tax payer taking on the might of MHRC so he could end up having to pay £1000 in fines for allegedly not submitting a Tax Return which would have merely showed that his tax was paid up to date ! Talking about this situation to friends someone said did he get his Authentication Code ? No, have never had one of those and apparently you are supposed to get it within 7 days of registering for the SA service. In our hours and hours on line trying to get into the SA Service nothing ever came up asking for an Authentication code.. As far as we can see he could be up the creek without a paddle here, yes he still has a scanned copy of the paper return that he posted off but how much credence HMRC would give that is very debatable. This situation has driven us to distraction. Since the day he first started work {just 3 days after leaving School he has never been out of work, has never claimed any benefits, has always paid his taxes ~ in other words, an ordinary hard working citizen who does not believe the world owes him a living etc. Have any of you people out there been in this situation and if or when HMRC start issuing fines can we appeal them ? Would referring the situation to our MP have any effect ?

I took a quick look and pointed out that the sidewalls were perishing and breaking up and that the tyres that had been described as 'Nearly New' had in fact been made in week 42 in the year 2000 so were actually 13 years old and should NOT be used on the road. I don't know if used tyre traders have a regulatory body over seeing them but if not surely there must be some regulations about selling tyres over a certain age. Any one know if there is ?

Presumably, for every one who does not receive an item that they ordered and was despatched, some one else gets it. Due to pressure of work leading up to xmas my son ordered a Nintendo DS2 games machine [an xmas pressie for his wife] on the Thursday morning before xmas with 'Guaranteed Delivery before Xmas'. On Sunday evening he checked the tracking number and found that 'Hermes' showed it as "Delivered to Shed" at 1616hrs on Friday, the day after despatch. Well, first point is that there was someone in the house all day on Friday and his 2 dogs vocalise as soon as anyone sets foot on his drive. No one called at the house all day ! Second point, he does not have a 'Shed' and nor do any of the other 9 houses' in the Close he lives in !. Just where the driver delivered to is any ones guess (If you live in the NR34 postcode area and got a Package from John Lewis with some one elses' name and address on the addressee's name is in the phone book !!! ) Now i am a bit old fashioned, by up bringing and inclination i am an honest man. If i found a parcel left by a carrier in my shed a couple of days before Xmas i would realise it was probably some ones xmas pressie and would take it to the addressee. But it seems times have changed, what would you do if it had landed in your shed ? Surely if you cannot trust carriers to deliver to the correct address and people receiving items without signature not for them it makes on line shopping far less risk free than they would have you believe.

On a 2 button remote, or any other remote i guess, there is a Chip which is specific to your car and cannot be re-programmed and then a separate circuit board which presumably is a radio or infra red transmitter - or something similar. On many cars if your remote loses it's 'Program' the owner can re-program it his/her self. Usually by specific actions in operating the drivers door lock or the ignition lock. That was the lead up ~ the question is, the 2 button remote key for my wife's Peugeot 406 estate has lost it's program. Can still be used to get into and start the car but cannot lock or unlock remotely. The owners manual tells you how to reset the program if this, quite a simple procedure. However, it does not work on my wifes' key. It has a new battery so it is not that so i presume that a fault has developed in the circuit board. A friend of hers who had the same vehicle has given her a remote key she found she still had after selling her car. Now if i take the circuit board out of that and throw the rest away can we utilise this in my wifes key. It seems to me, though i know very little about electronics, that if we removed the battery from this circuit board long enough for the circuit to lose it's program we could then reinsert the battery, put that circuit board in my wife's key and then use the handbook instructions to 're-program' it but this time to my wife's car. Is my thinking correct here or am i getting senile in my advancing years? lol Obviously i am guessing but would appreciate advice from someone who actually knows, maybe Timbo or Evelyn who are as near to guru's as you get in this section. [Please, no answer from Dr.Bear]. If my thinking is indeed correct any idea how long it needs minus battery for the circuit board to lose it's programming ?

We have very recently discovered that one of these two pipes is leaking, don't yet know which one. We are having to have ceramic floor tiles etc removed to track the run of the channels and will have to remove the concrete plug's. Great fun, not ! Anyway, as the pipes are 42 years old the obvious thing to do is to replace both pipes to avoid further problems in the future. This will be done by a plumber . My question is, when replacing would you recommend replacing with new Copper Pipe as the original (would need 2 soldered joints along the run) or go for the flexible Plastic pipe (polyethylene ?) that comes off a reel and could do the full run without joints ~ an obvious advantage as it will be sealed in under the flooring. My only reservations are that Copper lasted over 40 years, how long is this new plastic water piping said to last ? Our hot water is very hot and the cold pipe takes water from the rising main so is under some pressure i imagine. I am recently retired and don't don't want to have the same problem 10 or 15 years down the line. Your advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

Does ebay policy regarding unpaid items reduce the validity and integrity of their Feedback system ? If you read ebays policy on unpaid items you will find that if you have a non paying bidder and raise an Unpaid Item case and that bidder just ignores ebays emails to him the way he ignored emails from you you have to close the case and request a refund of your final value fee's. ebay record this against the culprits sellers account details in their system but the persons feedback rating is unaffected. I have a case open against someone at the moment who has 24 feedbacks [all for purchases of small items of childrens clothing] with 100% positive rating. He did not pay (£35) for the item ge won, ignored my invoice and emails and has also ignored ebays emails to him after i opened a case. He may or may not have some restriction placed on what he can buy for a limited period but his Feedback will stay at 100% Positive. Do you guys think, as i do, that this is unfair and basically undermines the validy of the Feedback system. Buyers offers on an item are affected by how honest the seller appears to be. On paper the guy in question seems to have an unblemished record so would be a safe bet to buy from. In fact he defaulted on a 35 quid purchase so is actually a far from safe bet to buy from. My view is that a Non Paying bidder should automatically receive a Negative Feedback imposed by ebay [not the seller] to put his Feedback rating into a correct perspective - what are your opinions ?

Now my son has 2 long term restoration projects of his own, both of which are vehicles well worth restoring. As he now works for himself the premises' that were originally jointly rented between himself and the ex MG owner are now his place of work and he has now had to move the MG out of the workshop and into the compound as he needs the workshop space it was taking up. But he really needs the compound space as well and my opinion is that the MGB is just a waste of space and time as he will now never have the time to fully restore it himself [though as a Vehicle Repair technician he has the skills and facilities] and it will never be worth enough money as a part restored car to make it worthwhile keeping. My view is that it was the wrong car to pick as a restoration project in the first place as there are too many of them around. My son reckons that if he fits a new o/s rear quarter panel, 2 new door skins and sources a pair of seats and sprays it in Primer that it will fetch at least a couple of grand. My opinion is that he is day dreaming and that if he can get say £750 for it as is he should get rid of it and free up the space. Who do you guys think is right here ~ i should mention that his business has taken off and he is getting more work than he can handle on his own any way after just 4 months in business and i doubt if the MGB would actually ever get the work mentioned above done and is just a hindrance taking up much needed space and is likely to for years. Then just why is it that so many people, including family members, relatives, friends, work mates etc will still talk to a sufferer from the other end of the room whilst turned away from them and get impatient when they either do not get a response or get an unexpected reply. Why do people imagine that a sufferer will be able to hear them if they call them from a different floor of the house. Why does it not occur to people that talking in a normal voice to a sufferer if the TV or Hi Fi is blaring away in the background close by will mean they will not be heard clearly or understood.
