• Is "several" supposed to specifically mean 7?

I guess 7 is roughly the quantity I would associate with the word but I don't think it's specific to that number. Do some people think it's supposed to mean 7 because they both start with "sev-"? In fact, if you want my opinion, while 7 is definitely an acceptable number to refer to as "several", it's toward the upper limit of where I'd stop using the word. In fact, if you want me to target "several" at a certain number it would probably be 6. I don't know why but I've always thought a few means 3 and several means 6. But it could be acceptable give or take.

  • Why does it seem like most Lexus drivers are Republican?

I'm a Democrat who drives a Lexus RX350 but it seems most of the other Lexus drivers I know are Republicans (and research backs that up). It can't be because "Republicans are rich" since there are also luxury brands favored by Democrats (Acura being the Japanese one).

  • Why do some people feel like a manslaughter charge isn't enough for a police officer who has shot and killed an unarmed person?

They say it must be murder and not manslaughter. While I agree that there should be at least a manslaughter charge sometimes there might not be evidence that it was premeditated. If it was spontaneous than I think manslaughter is a suitable charge.

  • In a Christmas barbershop quartet of Santa and 3 elves, would it make more sense for Santa to be the lead singer or the bass (deep voice)?

One might assume the lead singer since he's the leader but it could also make sense for him to be the bass since he is thought of as having a deep voice.

  • Anyone else think the train in The Polar Express movie sounded more like a present-day freight train than a 50s steam passenger train?

To me it did. Even the whistle almost sounded more like a modern-day air horn than a steam whistle to me. I could be wrong though. To me it just sounds more like a freight train than a passenger train. I've been dealing with hemorrhoids (I think) and a bloody rear end for the last year and more recently I feel like I've been having diarrhea-type movements more than normal and not being able to hold them as well. I sometimes can feel it leaking out as I'm passing gas too. Is this normal or could it be something serious like colon cancer?

  • Who was the true voice of the BeeGees to you: Barry Gibb or Robin Gibb?

To me their lead singer was always Barry. His high falsetto is unmistakable. Some people said though that when Robin passed away several years back the sound of the BGs was lost. He had a very distinctive voice as well but to me Barry was the true voice of them.

  • Is it wrong of me not to think too highly of Long Island when I've never actually been there?

Sort of like how many people don't think too much of New Jersey (which is different because I have a family connection there so naturally I don't mind it). I mean, let's face it. LI just seems like a very odd place to me. Maybe I shouldn't be so judgemental if I've never been there. Just what I can see.

Is it mostly because of him playing The Rump on Saturday Night Live (which he does perfectly)? People say he's a jerk but how would they know? Every celebrity has been called a jerk at some point or another.

I know he grew up and has lived most of his life on LI and they insist he's LI's favorite son, but in my humble opinion, a favorite son should have been both born and raised in the area in question (like Frank Sinatra and Hoboken - a true favorite son). Not that I don't like Billy because I sure do, but for that reason I think Alec Baldwin is LI's true favorite son, not Billy, since Alec is a born AND bred product of LI.

  • Would you consider 8-10 years ago to be "several" or "many"?

To me anything 10 or more is many. I've heard people call 8 or 9 several but to me that seems like a bit much for me to consider it several. Maybe it's just because I'm only 19 and that's half my life ago. When I say several I usually mean no more than 7. Just how I think of it.

  • Are freight trains usually noisier than passenger trains?

People always say a tornado sounds like a freight train. From what I’ve noticed freight trains are longer, bulkier, and slower moving than the Amtrak so they probably would be louder. In the movie The Polar Express the train was a passenger train but I thought it sounded more like a freight train (maybe it was different in the 50s).

  • Is Virginia really more the south or Mid Atlantic?

Geographically it's definitely the Mid Atlantic but I'm from NORTHERN VA and when you hear some of the old men from around my area talk you could swear you're down in Georgia/Alabama/Mississippi/Louisiana! I'd say it's culturally/historically very much the South.

  • Anyone else agree that railroad crossings should be required to have gates/arms, at least at busy crossings?

I feel like just lights aren't enough because some people might still think they can outrun the train, which they almost certainly can't. Gates are stronger protection and make it clearer to motorists that they can't beat the train.

  • Is it somehow unusual that I'm a liberal Democrat who drives a Lexus?

I drive a Lexus RX350. I have "Coexist" and "Tolerance" stickers on the back of it and my cousin said it was unusual to see a Lexus with those because it's a stereotypical "rich people car". Does that imply that it's more of a Republican car than a Democratic one?
