• At which public school was Herbert Kohl teaching that inspired '36 Children'?

Yes; I have searched the Web. I know it was a PS in NYC, around 119th St. I do not know which one it was; and the nyc.gov site doesn't provide information about him (they have never been great fans of Kohl since he criticised them horribly in those days). I recall the book saying the school was within view, or within a very short walk, of the New York Central railway viaduct at 119th St. In that neighbourhood the viaduct is basically a wall, as though cutting the city in half. Just on order to have some facts straight, I would like to know what sort of precautions or tricks might be used amongst real dancers or gymnasts who might have to perform under such potentially-compromising circumstances. Is it feasible to reschedule, using pills; or are there any less-conspicuous protection products; or are there other tricks real-life people use? I am aware that in many case, younger teenaged athletes (especially gymnasts) have not even had a period yet when competing at ages 12-15. it happens. However the character in my novel series has had it. Thanks to everyone to takes this in the spirit intended! :)

  • What steam locomotives were used by the Seaboard Air Line?

I am specifically interested in those used for the crack passenger trains, especially the 'Silver Meteor' and 'Orange Blossom Special', in the 1930-1945 period. I know the 'SM' used diesels from about 1939; but did they use 4-6-2s that late, or 2-10-0s at all? Most of the historic sites do not get into this much... show more
