  • How would gravity behave on a massive torus?

If the centre of mass of a torus is at its centre, ie its hole, then if we built a giant torus that was, say, 6,357 km thick and whose over-all radius was, say, 300 million kilometres, * would the surface of the torus have a gravitationally pull - or would objects be drawn towards the hollow centre?

    * assuming there were no other massive objects in the vicinity.

  • What kind of Mac OS X 5 install disk can I use to put Leopard onto my PowerBook G4?

I've seen install disks for sale which say they're for Mac Pro. Would they work? I realize any disk I get will have to be for PowerPC - but I want to be sure to get something my PowerBook likes (it's a single CPU [1.67 GHz] PowerPC G4 [1.2] 17" currently running 10.4.11).

  • Flax seed oil interferes with vitamin B6 absorption - so how much B6 should I take?

I recently read that if you take flax seed oil you need to take vitamin B6 supplements because the oil contains a factor which interferes with this vitamin. I take 20 - 25 ml a day and I'm about 145 lb / 66 kg. How much vitamin B6 should I take?

  • How can I stop dripping tap?

My kitchen tap is in the shape of an inverted 'u'. When I turn it off it keeps dripping for a very long time, making me very agitated. This is no joke. I have Multiple Sclerosis and I'm prone to panic attacks. Is there something inexpensive I can do (save leaving the kitchen for half an hour) that will stop the dripping?

  • Maximum temperature for Omega 3?

I know that the essential fatty acid Omega 3 (found in flax seed oil, purslane and walnuts, etc) is heat and light-sensitive - but what oven temperature can it withstand, and for how long?

  • Any music like 'Cirrhosis of the Heart' by Foetus?

I know it's pretty unlikely that anybody even knows who Foetus is, let alone loves this one single track – but if you're out there: I'm in need of another fix of 'Cirrhosis of the Heart'-style groove ('Flow' album version). It's a bit 'Mission Impossible'; a bit Henry Mancini.

    Oh, I dunno.

    Help!

  • Grow kefir in coconut milk or just coconut water?

I would like to grow kefir but I don't like dairy milk and coconut water is so expensive! I am growing some in coconut milk (I think!) - It certainly smells like fresh yeast and the liquid tastes lovely - but will the kefir survive?

  • Self-powered exercise bikes?

I'm trying to buy a relatively inexpensive exercise cycle (£300-ish) that I don't have to plug in to an electrical socket, but that has digital displays. Any recommendations?
