A week ago I purchased a 12 week old Syrian hamster from a Pets at Home store. I check up on my hamster daily and she seems to be perfectly healthy, suggesting a positive diet and lifestyle. Although I have witnessed my hamster eating occasionally, I never see her using the water bottle properly (It is a 'Ferplast' brand 'ball-point' style bottle similar to any you have seen before), my hamster frantically scratches and bites at the bottle's metal tube, but apparently cannot fathom how to reach it. With the bottle I have it is impossible to measure the water level over time, to see if she is drinking while I am not watching, so I have no idea what to do. My hamster's urine is yellow coloured and slightly thick, and her faeces is almost black and perfectly solid - she clearly does not have 'wet tail'. Could it be that the design of bottle is too complicated for her? Should I be concerned by now?

I am not familiar with any companies that manufacture such products, and most I have found online seem to be unbranded (e.g. 'Made in China'), I would like a good quality one, if someone can recommend. I have browsed Google, Amazon, through many products but all seem to be poor quality.

Nothing wrong with that, but the landlord always copies in my parents (not guarantors), the other tenants (none of their business), and my partner. My question is: What do Data Protection Laws say about this behaviour, shouldn't landlord keep detailed correspondence between me and themselves? Of course remaining tenants have a right to know as they are on same contract, but being copied in to correspondence is not appropriate surely? They don't all have a right to know the ins and outs of why my rent is late etc.

One of them (A) leaves before the end of the contract and finds a replacement (E) - the landlord agrees - and the replacement tenant (E) continues the contract. Soon after, a different tenant (B) abandons the property without finding a replacement, and the landlord is forced to look at the other tenants to recover the rent, as they are all on the same contract. Clearly, C and D are contractually responsible, but who out of E and A is also responsible? Please explain your answers in detail, referring to English law.

Is it safe or even possible to buy an immersion heater, wire it up (to the mains?) then put it in a cold bath to heat the water? If so, what are the practical implications of this method?

  • A way to heat up large quantities of water?

Is there such a thing as a waterproof heating element or similar that you can put in the water to heat it? I want to be able to heat big quantities of water, so don't suggest a kettle or anything because that's not enough.
