• Is the Landover Baptist Church worse than the church of Satan?

I have just clicked on a link in a recent question for the Landover Baptist Church. My new phone informed me that I was blocked unless I could prove I was over 18. As an experiment I searched The Church of Satan.....No problem. Yes I know the Landover BC is a parody, But is it really considered worse for kids than The COS.

  • Do prayers have an effective range?

We know prayers are answered in notoriously fickle fashion. Do believers think that proximity has anything to do with efficacy?

  • So....Which user on here could be God?

Christians, there is no reason why God should not be trying to influence things using YA, so who on here could be your Lord and Master in disguise? Atheists, witty answers please. Oh, and which user is really Satan?

  • Is the US really as religious as most europeans believe?

I have just got back from a two week holiday in Florida. As an atheist I expected a lot of uncomfortable questions about my religion. Instead I find the malls full on Sunday and a fairly secular view of life. Is that just Florida? Also, I was expecting huge portions of food at cheap prices and lots of fat people, both were lacking. My view of the US... show more

My vote is for Professor Hugh. Yesterday I had a spot up my nose, I prayed to God using Hugh as an intermediate messenger, and it vanished. Your thoughts?

If so, what modern temptation could cause him to sin?

  • Why did Jesus die so quickly on the cross?

Christians, I know it must have been incredibly painful, but why did Jesus expire so fast compared to other historic reports?. Atheists, if the story is fiction, why did the writers have him die so swiftly?

  • What biblical, philosophical or fictional passage best sums up Yahoo R&S?

I think Omar Kyhayyam sums it up well. “The Moving Finger writes; and, having writ, Moves on: nor all thy Piety nor Wit Shall lure it back to cancel half a Line, Nor all thy Tears wash out a Word of it.”

http://examiningtheapparatus.blogspot.co... l am an atheist, my wife is a Christian (well, Church of England, which is go to church for weddings, funerals and christmas). We have an agreement that our four year old daughter should make up her own mind about religion, neither of us will say "this is the truth". She has a book which is one her favourites - Dinner in the Lions den. The first time I read it I thought "this ain't right!". My wife says it is ok, my daughter loves it. She asks a lot of awkward questions about it. Personally I think it will make her lean towards atheism. Questions. Do you think it is damaging for a four year old? As a religious person or atheist, how do you see it affecting their beliefs as they grow older?

I understand that they believe that there is one god above all, but so do many other religions. For instance, some Christians believe in Satan, they say he is not a god, but apparently he has dominion over the Earth. Perhaps they do not worship him, but accept that he exists. Hindus have many gods, an individual Hindu does not worship them all, but they accept there is one god above the others. How is the Christian religion any different? If God is omnipotent, why does he need all of the lesser supernatural beings - angels, Mary, Satan (lesser gods?) to do his bidding?

Just had a horrible thought. In early societies those carrying out religious ceremonies were held in high regard. Therefore those who could sell the best story had much to gain. I have chosen to be cremated, however, if I was to be buried I would like to have a one of my stone working tools (I am a builder) and photographs of my wife and daughter set in something that would not decay. Whoever dug me up would then have some idea of my life. What would you take on your final journey?
