  • Phased return & payment of SSP?

I have been off work since the end of January 2014 following an injury at work which required surgery and have only been in receipt of SSP. I am due to see the consultant next week and have been told it is likely that I will be put on a phased return 2 - 3 days a week on light duties. My normal working week is Monday - Friday 38 hours a week.

I have looked at the guidance I can find on gov.uk which states my employer should pay me SSP for any days not worked during the phased return but my wife who has done payroll in the past says she seems to remember going on a HMRC course in 2010 - 2011 and being told that this only applys if you work the early days of the week and that it does not apply if you work fro example Monday, Wednesday & Friday.

Does anyone have any experience of this or able to offer some advice?

    Thanks in advance.

  • Category C write off motorcycle?

Our motorbike has just been declared a Category C write off by an independent assesor used by our insurance company. Ideally I would have liked to have bought it back as we've had it from new and it was immaculate and had covered very low mileage, however he told us that that won't be possible. I was always under the impression that with a valid MOT certificate that both category C & D motorcycles can be put back on the road which has been confirmed to me by VOSA. For this reason, are the insurance company legally obliged to refuse to sell the bike back to me when the assesor has also verified that it will be sent to salvage for auction anyway? The damage is mainly cosmetic, however there is a dent in the swing arm. To be fair my husband would only use it for track days now anyway. Is there anyone with insurance industry experience who can clear this up for me? Thanks in advance :)

  • Best home use router (multiple devices)?

I have 3 desktop pc's and also use a laptop between work and home. We have just got the Vodafone sure signal to improve the signal strength to our mobiles which also connects via ethernet cable. The router that was supplied is an Orange Livebox and we have never been able to connect any device via Wi-Fi and the sure signal box will not set up to it either. Can anyone advise me on a decent router that can be purchased and will run all of these devices without any problems? My husband is pretty good at technical issues but is now pulling his hair out by not being able to have everything running smoothly with the existing router! (He has been onto both Vodafone and Orange technical supports without sucess)

  • Dog loosing fur around ears?

My dog is a staffie, she is now 10 and I have just noticed that she is loosing fur on her ears. I just wondered if anyone knows what this could be and any treatments prior to me taking her to the vets?

Overall she is in good health although she has always suffered from dry skin/scurf which the vet has previously said is common in the staffordshire breed. She is up to date with her innoculations and worming/de-fleaing

    Any ideas?

  • Abdominal Pain for the last few weeks?

I have recently been getting abdominal pain on my right side low down for some weeks, sometime bad and sometimes mild. I have been able to control with painkillers.

My periods stopped 3 months ago and I have done a pregnancy test which is negative.

I'm 27 and otherwise in good health but did suffer with ovarian cysts until I had my first child at 18, since then i've had no further problems until this pain started.

Does anyone know of anything else it could be other than a cyst?
