Obviously the United States has a capitalist health care system, with medicare and medicaid for seniors and those below the poverty threshold. At the same time Canada has a single payer system, which pretty much means Medicare for everyone. In the USA I've heard people vehemently oppose universal health care, people will cry that it will lower quality, raise taxes, etc. There are also certainly those in America that would be fine with universal health coverage like in Canada.
So Canadians, what are your thoughts on the American health care system? Do you think that it would be in the best interests of America to implement a single payer system? Also what do you think of the arguement that people who have worked hard to earn their money shouldn't be required to pay for the health care of others?
Thanks for your responses.
