A couple in their nineties are both having problems remembering things. During a check-up, the doctor tells them that they're physically okay, but they might want to start writing things down to help them remember .. Later that night, while watching TV, the old man gets up from his chair. 'Want anything while I'm in the kitchen?' he asks. 'Will you get me a bowl of ice cream?' 'Sure.' 'Don't you think you should write it down so you can remember it?' she asks. 'No, I can remember it.' 'Well, I'd like some strawberries on top, too. Maybe you should write it down, so as not to forget it?' He says, 'I can remember that. You want a bowl of ice cream with strawberries.' 'I'd also like whipped cream. I'm certain you'll forget that, write it down?' she asks. Irritated, he says, 'I don't need to write it down, I can remember it! Ice cream with strawberries and whipped cream - I got it, for goodness sake!' Then he toddles into the kitchen. After about 20 minutes, the old man returns from the kitchen and hands his wife a plate of bacon and eggs. She stares at the plate for a moment. 'Where's my toast?' .

  • Can I opt out of PAYE (Pay As You Earn) tax if I work for a company as a basic employee?

No? NO? Why the heck not? I want to invest all my wages (and other monies, house etc) in the Channel Islands and pay 1% income tax. Seems like the rich do that, so why can't we?

David beckham has asthma, and he is extremely fit, probably fitter than most British soldier's yet he cant join because of one thing thats wrong with him! I know the army say that its for protection of the other people, but if you can run 5miles, pass training, do all the things everybody else can do then i dont see the trouble in letting people join. My idea is having a normal army uniform but have some tube, kind of like a straw that you suck on to take the inhaler, no need for you to drop your gun or anything, just a simple suck on a straw when you need it. I doubt you even would if you passed training. I bet if WW3 happens they would want us to pick up a gun then. Minority? 30% of army applications are declined because they have asthma. its hardly a minority when 1/3rd of the planet suffer with asthma And it was an idea, clearly most of you didnt read my post.

I work a part time evening shift of 4 hours 20:00-24:00 Monday,Tuesday,Thursday Friday on a 4 week cycle. I also work 1 of 17:00-21:00 hours on 1 Saturday per month. This works out at 17 hours per week average per week. I am paid monthly so I find it difficult to understand why an in balance in a week affects the hours worked in a month. We are told that because of a new computer system we have to work a balanced amount of hours ie 16 hours a week or 20 hours a week. If I were to up my hours to 20/week the easiest option would be to do 3 extra Wednesdays as I would prefer not to do any more Saturdays. I could possibly start 2 hours early on some evenings to balance the hours, but I am reluctant to do so as this would mean having to take a break of 15 minutes, therefore I would have to start 2.25 hours earlier. I am not permitted to drop the Saturday because of trading requirements. I am also told that if I work extra hours at busy trading times of the year throwing everything out of balance this will be ok. It can be calculated as extras. There are 5 of us affected by this new proposal, mostly women with children of school age. They do the hours at present to fit in with school and husbands work, and any increase will have an impact on family life, or a decrease will have an impact on family finances. Some staff only work 12 hours /week and under no pressure to do more so it seems that the staff who are doing more hours at present are the ones bearing the brunt. My wife also works at the same store but she works a balanced set of hours, and is not affected by this new proposal. The problem arises as we have only 1 car and we are 10 miles from home to work
