• Did you think that attending church was dumb when you were a child?

As a child, I thought attending church was a good thing. I thought Jesus loved me and going to church was the right thing to do. Now I think all religions, and religious services would be a terrible thing for me, as I've been atheist for about 40 years.

  • Why are you atheist?

I realized a long time ago, when I was around 21, that gods don't exist, and holy books are all stories written by humans , to control others. (I'm 61).

  • Hey atheists. What would you say if Christian ask you what do you your morality on?

What do we base our morality on? Well there's the Golden Rule, of course, which pre-dates Judaism: Treat others as you would wish to be treated. Most people however have an innate sense of morality (Except sociopaths and psychopaths). Our human brains tell us what's right and what's wrong. If you imagine people many thousands... show more

Most people however have an innate sense of morality (Except sociopaths and psychopaths). Our human brains tell us what's right and what's wrong. If you imagine people many thousands of years ago, living in mud huts near a river, well one of the hunters, his roof leaks, so he sneaks into his neighbor's house, kills the guy , takes the hut and the wives! Well if he keeps doing that, all the other hunters will be dead, and when an enemy attacks, he'll be unable fight them off. So that tribe - the male lineage, the murderous thinking, does not survive. People who cooperate are the ones who do well.

There's really only one thing that defines atheists: Gods don't exist. As one of the Anonymous people said " it is common for atheists to hold reason and secularism at high regard," but there's only that one thing that defines us.

There's also the "My Big Fat Greek Wedding " scenario, and the situation with Ms. Markle, where a person wants so much to be accepted into a marriage, that they somehow brainwash themselves.

Yes, I see the difference. I'm not annoyed if people go to church on Sunday's, but I'm very annoyed if someone rings my doorbell to tell me how wonderful Jesus is! And I'm very angry that church buildings get tax-free status! And atheists don't go ringing doorbells to propagate atheism, aren't you glad? show more

No, that's not true. When you read the bible, you'll realize that it's just some old human stories that don't connect and they often contradict each other.

They thought the gods or the spirits of the ancestors might help them, if they worshiped and sacrificed. So people invented the idea of gods. Gods could get angry and kill whenever they wanted. Gods could give a good harvest, or they could cause famine. These stories helped people understand the good and bad actions of humans, and the random acts of nature. Then a few people made religion so that certain individuals could gain wealth and power. "Give money to our temple (or whatever building) or we'll tell everyone you're doing witchcraft and you'll burn." Just like paying protection money to the mafia. And it's been building ever since. Finally in the 21st century, in the West, people can say they're Atheist, Humanist or Agnostic. This is wonderful. Freedom is wonderful. Kindness, love and compassion come from the human mind. Live your life now, with love and compassion.

No. Gods don't actually exist. The idea of gods was invented by people. Same thing with sin. It's not a real thing. It's an idea invented by people to control others. People can do good things or bad things. People can do legal or illegal things. But we never sin.

Bible Verses such as Matthew 10:34. ..." Do not suppose that I came to bring peace to the earth: I did not come to bring peace but a sword." Also, no group of people actually followed what the New testament said. There's the story of the good Samaritan, but Americans and Europeans killed 'witches.' And what about "Let him without sin cast the first stone" For centuries priests and kings and noblemen and well men, had a wife and also mistresses and nobody was worried, but women were punished mercilessly. People leave devoutly held beliefs when they see how ridiculous and cruel those beliefs are.
