Going to NYC.....hostel..question..!?

I am going with virgin airlines, to NYC....I was just wondering when going do i need to book a hotel through the virgin website? because i found a hostel (which is cheaper) called the big apple hostel?

oh i forgot the name of the website, something to do with a couch, its a listing of places you can crash out for free, couchcruiser or something to that effect.

I always check every place before I book on www.tripadvisor.com. People review the hotels they've stayed in so you can read the good, bad, and ugly before you book. I also look at the top hotels for the city I'm going to and look for the lower cost places. There are plenty of cheap hotels out there that are clean and safe, just without any frills. I've never stayed at a "bad" hotel by doing it this way. It requires a bit more work but you can save a lot of money in the long run.
