Does music really travel slower in Europe?

So me and my boyfriend where having this argument not so long ago. we were listening to a song that said something about listening to disco music on the radio, i said the song was outdated and he said that it wasnt, that people in Europe actually listen to outdated music because music travels slow from the United States. He said that people in Europe actually listened to the really old music from the United states because thats what they get, and that the US was the main place for music, from The US everything gets transported to the rest of the world. He is as you can see born and raised in the US. I am from Latin America and i refuse to belive that this is true, i do not know the real answer but i refuse to belive him, mainly because i know him and when i met him he belived the only music in Spanish was the crappy mexican music they play on the radio here in the US. Is also sounds ridiculous

Yes. It is true. We in London are currenntly enjoying your Elvis Presley very much. He is King. Long live Elvis!
We are also very much liking your chewing gum and hamburgers. They are so tasty!
America tells us what to do and we love to do it. We will love you for making us rock and roll.
We dream of one day having your one of your automobiles and we are addicted to coca-cola.
Maybe you would come to look at us. We will work for you all day for a hershey bar and some nylons.

You already know this isn't true from your own experience. While there are some oldies stations here, they are the same concept as the oldies stations in the US that feature music from the past. The big difference is that they're not limited to US music. There are also many contemporary stations that feature the current music from various places. You see and hear groups from all over Europe and some from the US.

Your boyfriend was having you on.

As for outdated - in Europe we listen to music from all eras. While rock music and its derivatives might be the great US art form, there are people in Europe who are influenced by it and are working on their own next wave.
