Fear of flying due to 9/11 - Help!?

Okay so basically I have about 4 flights in a couple of weeks and they're all United Airlines. Now on the same day my family bought the tickets I was researching the 9/11 attacks and flight 93 was a United Airline flight and now I am SO FREAKED OUT that some hijacker will take over the plane and crash it into the white house. What should I do? I'm not scared of flying but I'm extremely scared of terrorists. Oh gosh... Any advice?

Don't worry about it. You can't hijack planes anymore.
The simple fact is, that prior to 9/11 most hijack situations were resolved with minimal loss of life.
Therefore, the entire set of passengers on these flights sat patiently hoping for the best, believing that if they didn't interfere, they would emerge from the ordeal safely.
However, now, if one were to hijack a plane, 99% of the passengers would get up and fight the hijackers. They know that if they do nothing the will die, therefore they have nothing to lose.
No hijacker can handle 300 - 400 people coming at them.

Those talibans have ruined hijacking for everyone.

A basic review of statistics will reveal that you are more likely to die in a car crash than a plane crash, and that you are more likely to be killed by a police officer than a terrorist. Still scared to fly?

Let me tell you a story. "Once a sailor met a banker in the bar and they start chatting. "who was your father?" asked banker. "My father and his father and his father all been sailors, what about yours? " All my ancestors been bankers." -proudly replied banker. " How your father died?"- he asks the sailor. "In the see, as well as his father and his father..." "And you are not afraid of being a sailor?" "Well, how is your father died?", asked sailor. "All my ancestors died at home, in their beds...", said banker. "And you are not afraid to go to the bed every night?" asked the sailor.

Hope it will help you to overcome your fear. Have a good flight.

I flew United this morning and had no problems. Neither did anyone else on the plane.

They are just like any other airline.

    Think about some statistics.

At any given moment during daylight hours, approximately 125,000 people are airborne over the continental US.

There are approximately 5000 commercial flights in FAA airspace right now.

    1) What are the chances that YOUR flight is going to be different from all these?

    2) Are you really so important that if you did die in a crash, your death would have some sort of impact to the planet? Even if you do die, the sun will rise the next day without you.

Just enjoy your flight, and enjoy your trip. You will die when you are meant to die, no sooner, no later.
