here's a page about Rome in December generally :

http://www.explore-italian-culture.com/r…

- if you're there for more than just the evening, make sure you see the life-sized Nativity scenes, particularly the one in St Peter's Square, and the Christmas market in Piazza Navona which is on until 6 January.

On New Year's Eve the place to be is Piazza del Popolo where you'll find bands and fireworks at midnight - and on New Year's Day the square is worth going back to as there is entertainment for the kids (acrobats, jugglers etc) and a wonderful atmosphere.

On New Year's Day the Pope gives a blessing from a balcony in St Peter's Basilica and hundreds of thousands of people go to the square to watch it. It's preceded by a New Year's Day parade which finishes in the square. If you don't fancy being crushed watch it from Via della Conciliaione as it passes. It's well worth seeing.

If you ask at your hotel, they should be able to give you details of the time the parade's due to pass by.

How lucky are you to be in Rome on New Year's Eve! - it's amazing - enjoy!

Visited Rome in September. Don't know anything about their new year celebrations. Can tell you that we paid 11 euro for a pot of very weak tea for two, so check the prices before you order.

Well, I' ve never been in Rome, but I Know how that Rome night life is particularly vivid in Via Venedo, it' s the place of paparazi, how it is explained in all the italian movies, It' s sure that there you can find many tv stars like Gina Lolobrigida and Mastroianni, you cannot forget to take a spumoni or italian ice cream at plaza di espania, where it was filmed a cult scene of dolce vitta BY fellini.

Lol. The Via Veneto is still quite fashionable, but it's heyday was the 1950's and 1960's. Marcello Mastriani died 13 years ago, and Gina Lollabrigida is 82 years old!

They eat dinner and party a bit a home and then take to the streets.

Rome's traditional New Year's Eve celebrations center in the Piazza del Popolo. Huge crowds celebrate with rock and classical music and dancing and of course, fireworks. The celebrations last well into the night.

Next to the church of Santa Maria del Popolo, you can still see the exhibit of traditional nativity scenes (through January 8) from 100 regions of Italy and other countries of the world.

Rome has a classical music concert outdoors on the square in front of the Quirinale, off Via Nazionale, around 11:00 followed by fireworks at midnight.

When I say crowds are HUGE I mean HUGE.
