The beaches of Gili G are the answer to both your questions. Most of the beach's in the Gilis are pretty spectacular with clear water and lots of white sand. But the beachs of Gili G are more secluded and there are less than 300 people that live on that particular Gili... lol I personally prefer Gili A and Gili T is great for parties etc but G is just for kickin back on the beach.
Lombok itself has thousands of beaches. it is an island after all and the island itself has not been exploited to the same extent as Bali. Lombok Island is perhaps the best kept secret in Indonesia and a joy to explore. it has the feeling that Bali did thirty years ago so you are definitely asking the right questions.
