The answer is that you will certainly have to pay a cancellation fee. The amount, if any, of refund will depend on the ticket rules of your ticket. Some are fully refundable and others are restricted or no refunds. You need to check your ticket status with Virgin.

The longer you wait the less chance of getting anything.

As with all fare questions, it depends on the class of ticket that you bought. If you have a non-refundable ticket, there will be a cancellation fee or, sometimes, you will not be able to get a refund at all and you will have to take a credit towards a future trip.
