The One Child Policy is having negative effects on China’s population too. There will soon be, and already is a sign of an ageing population which will mean the government will have to put more money onto healthcare and pensions with fewer youngsters around to carry out the work. By the year 2025, the percentage of over 65s in China could reach 30% and instead of the traditional method of children caring for their elders, China’s elderly will have to be put into social retirement care as there won’t be enough youngsters to support them.

Children are becoming far too spoilt! Parents are treating their only children like royalty, and obese, demanding boys are being seen far too often now and they will have big problems when they reach their teens. I thought this policy was meant to improve living conditions!

This ridiculous attempt of a policy is seriously affecting China’s sex ratio. Since the 1980s, our ratio has become completely disfigured and the male to female ratio is now 116:100. So much for killing of baby girls and an increase in abortion rates. China could have completely devastated it’s future as there will soon be a shortage in the number of young fertile women and then there will be even fewer births. China is forcing young men to remain single, there to be an increase in prostitution and the status of women may well go down in an already overpowering male society. What a disaster!

Overall, China’s One Child policy has ultimately done what it set out to do. However, it cannot be hailed a success as there have also been some serious consequences including a rise in prostitution, a lack of fertile women within the middle age group, a rise in the number of unregistered children and a host of other problems. China was getting to a point where it was going to become drastically overpopulated and the government was right to try and implement a system which would reduce numbers. However, it went too far in trying to implement this rule and there are many people who think that the whole system has been a fiasco. There is a vast shortage in females compared to males and this has made China and even more male dominated country than it already was. China may have began to control it’s population, but has it really solved the problem of bring the country up to date and created a better standard of living for its people?

Increases in abortions and many families may want to have more children because their child has no siblings. There have also been problems with baby girls that are born being put up of adoption or abandoned because parent can only have one child they want a male child. Hope this helps

Having one child only makes the parents and grandparents more doting and pampering. At the same time without siblings around, the children may lack social skill. Children of such generation are more likely to be selfish and egocentric.

When some Chinese parents found out they're having a girl instead of a boy, some of them chose to abort it in the hope of being pregnant with a boy later, some parents deserted the girls. Chinese orphanages are disproportionately filled with girls, the ratio of boys to girls is approx 51.5 to 48.5%. Roughly this would mean 40 million men could not find a spouse, and the women are in great danger of being raped and harassed.

When there are less babies born, there would be a period of time when there would be less income earning youths supporting a bigger population of retired seniors. This could be a burden to the country economically especially for health care.

the problem is that the self styled experts, who enforced this policy as being the foremost authorities on this issue in the country, and categorically ignored structured advice from those that were qualified to give an appraisal, on the long term effect of this policy, rigidly enforced this, and maintained it was necessary to offset starvation in the future, caused by an ever increasing population that it would be unable to feed, the point that was rigorously ignored, due to their inflated ego and self righteousness, is simply they now have a retired population that is greater than the working one, and therefore the retired population is facing starvation and deprivation because of it, it attempts to offset this by exporting cheap goods to major nations, a massive cargo ship makes the crossing from china to the states in exactly 4 day, full of goods and returns empty, it doesn't even return scrap metal, this situation cannot continue indefinitely, as you cannot export goods continuously to a country, and take nothing back in return, the money must run out.

The one child policy in China is havin really bad effect. alot of people are putting girl babys up for adoption or aborting the baby sue to the long history of male preference, as this carries on the family name. however this has caused there to be more males than females,I can't remember the exact number but its something like 120 boys for each 100 girls...

its hard on farmers etc, traditionally asian countries usuallylike to give birth to more children to help with agricultural work unless the government invest money in machines for the farmers itll be hard on rural families. this can also cause aging population as well since there will be more elders. however at the present time is good for the country since China is over populating which is a serious matter. China probably has to modernise asap to cure its over populating issues and lift the ban.
welli support the fact China is trying to control its population but i think they should put in exceptions for certain groups or probably limit them to 2 or 3 children. if they dont contrl their population China will have a lot of major issues in the future, worst case, the collapse of the country.
