Trip to Thailand Suggestions?

Hi - a friend & I are planning a trip to Thailand in mid-April for 6 weeks, not one of those seedy or honky poky ones, but a sight seeing, plenty of walking & meditation.

Can anyone suggest a good itinary - money is nt an issue, however - we would lke to budget about £600.00 for the trip excluding the flight.

Many thanks for sensible suggestions

Not sure what a seedy, honky or poky trip is! No one will force you ladies into some sort of bar against your will! Thousands of tourists pass by bars every day and are never bothered by the nightlife in Bangkok or Pattaya! Millions and millions of tourists visit Bangkok every year and have an absolutely wonderful holiday with or without any visits to the nightlife! Don't skip Bangkok, it won't ruin your reputation!

Mention how much per night you want to spend on a hotel so you can get recommendations closer to what your budget is. Start in Bangkok, stay there for a few days. While in Bangkok you can arrange flights or trains to other areas in Thailand. You can get tours through travel agencies in the major cities like Bangkok, Phuket, Chiang Mai and Pattaya.

My advice is to stay in a hotel near the Skytrain route so you can use that overhead rail service to get around the city. If you are young, right out of school then perhaps you may want to stay in the Khao San Road area with some of the other really young travelers. No Skytrain in the KSR area. Finish your holiday in Bangkok again so you can do some last minute souvenir shopping and perhaps take in a dinner cruise if you want. This way you will only be a short meter taxi ride to the airport.

Below travel forums have some good advice on hotels and some things to see. Read up on Thailand first so you can plan your moves. If you want to walk around a bit try the Chiang Mai area. Read up on transportation from the airport and some ideas on where to stay.

Plan on how you can stay in Thailand for 6 weeks. You may need a visa; if you are from UK you only get 30 days free entry at the airport.

Good luck.

I have been to thailand i love it, so i hope you have a good time :D i went to a place called Hua Hin, It is a small town with lots of nightlife, many temples and amazing Scenery, mountains are around every corner and it has a hilton, and many gorgeous hotels, mid april is the water festival (or sonkran) which is truly amazing, unless you dont like thai people wacking you with water and paste ( which i have no idea what is in it.) anyway i would either go to Pattaya Or Hua Hin, they are both beautiful places, like thailand, but be careful the laws are strict.
All the best and have an amazing time,
ps. you will need much much more then £100 a week id say maybe £200-£300

I was there over the Summer and focused my trip in Bangkok and the south , went to the fullmoon ...not to be missed if you can make it , possibly the most crazy couple of days of my life!! I think you will be pushed on £600 , i spent £400 in 2 weeks but did live like a king and did party every night so if you are very sensible you might just be able to last on that , Thailand is still very cheap you can get rooms for £3 a night!!

100 a week? I don't know about that...that seems kind of small....when i was there for a month...i dumped 100 per day not counting night life...that averaged about another 40-100 per night.....but that is usa dollars so i don't know exact exchange rate...but you are gonna live pretty poor....

I don't know about the south...but go to chiang mai and see the tiger farm...pic on the left is me at it...snake farm and elephant farm is cool too

i think if you budget well, then youll be able to make it on your trip. You need to be aware that a lot of the good places to go do incur a cost.
A lot of the museums, as well as the palaces cost around 150Baht to get in, and while each is only a small amount it adds up. There is quite a lot of stuff you can see for free. Also remember youll have to pay for transport as well - taxis, buses, tuk-tuks. If you can get on as many buses and seung-tows as possible then transport costs will be less. Also try and see all you want to see in one area, and simply walk from one thing to another.

My suggestion is to make sure you know exactly how much you want to spend on shopping. i didnt keep track of that and it got a bit out of hand. set aside a certain amount of money and don't go past it. its so easy to do that in Thailand...because everywhere will have different things from each other place, and there is so many things you just cant find in your home country.

Also remember that while food is quite cheap, if your going to be drinking that ads a lot of other costs.

    Amy.

well, i think 100 per week for 2 is a bit too tight... and 6 weeks is maybe too long for you too. how about only 4 weeks in the same budget... that would be easier a lot.. try this site if you never been Thailand before and don't know where to stay. http://www.discovery-thailand.com/Hotels… it is surely help with their lowest rate guarantee... hope this info would help your plan become true... Have a good day

i went koh phi phi islands last xmas... really nice beach.. clear water, def must !!!
then bangkok has alot to see.. the grand palace, the canals , use the skytrain for public transport ..
also visited koh samui another nice island.. more touristy.. then headed to koh phangan island for famous full moon party.. 10000 people party all night on beach...
i'm going back to thailand next may to see more of the north of country... it is alot cheaper to thesouth i've been told..
these places i've named are more commercial than the north. i feel the real culture of thailand is in the north which i would like to experience wehn i return in may.
in april when your visiting it is the hottist time of the year and the heat can be unbearable.

Best suggestion: cancel and try to get your money back, try Malaysia in stead if you wanna smell some real culture.

Laos (cheaper) has great people too, guess you will fall in love with LuangPrabang really that will open your heart.

Unless you wanna end up with elehantshows, monkyshows (real sad), snakeshows, crocodileshows, dogshows, longneckshows and all other kinds of abuse and exploitation of human, animal and nature, even 'eco-tours' are a hoax here. Just some lost 'Lonely Planets' still wandering around here looking for the cheapest guesthouses.

Bring lots of condoms for all the party girls you'll meet at the bars.

Also, be careful with the hookers. Some of them are 14 years old and many of them are ladyboys.
