Has China's one child policy been good in any way at all?

For my Geography home work i need to say some good and bad effects of China's one child policy. Any help?

The reason why China implemented the one child policy is to control population growth. The total land mass of China will not become larger, but if every 2 people have more than 2 children, some day there will not be enough land and space for every person, so people will not have enough food, clean water and would be crowded together. With the one child policy, so far China has avoided an explosion of its population.

Because of having one child only for most families, there will be more older people than young after a few decades. Socially and economically it would mean less people would be supporting a larger population of aging seniors.

There are so many people there. If there were more people they may run out of food for the population

Good
It has reduced population expansion, making the Government job of providing for its citizens somewhat easier.
It has meant that one child in the from all its resources and personal attention.
That child is likely to be better educated because the parents don't have to divide their resources between many children.

Bad
In one generation there are no more sisters, brothers, aunts, uncles or cousins.
The Chinese preference for male children has led to a big gender imbalance - attributed to abortion, female infanticide, less medical care for sick female infants, abandonment of girl babies.
Many Chinese young men will fail to find a wife - in 2005 there were 32 million more males under the age of 20, than females.
There are now fewer young people having the responsibility of providing for more ageing people - one child when grown up and working to support two parents and very possibly four grandparents as well - the 4:2:1 problem.

Overpopulation is a global problem that endangers the entire planet. There are 6.6 billion people on Earth and a limited amount of air, water, food, and other resources. Global warming, environmental pollution, and animal species extinction are all a direct result of too many people. Without limits on population growth, we will all die from lack of resources. China is the only country to take effective measures against overpopulation.

It's a good thing they implimented this policy, otherwise the world and China would not survive till today.
