Dating a British man, English dating etiquette?

So, I've been seeing / dating a British man (Tall, well-off business career, nicely dressed) recently. No big deal, but technically, my first 'British' dating partner. Seeing as how I'm not quite experienced with dating practices in the UK, i thought fellow readers would enlighten me with their knowledge.

We've been to several "dates" together. He's the one that suggest us to go out somewhere, so naturally, he's the person asking me out. And he was the one to label it as a "date" also. Every "date"/night goes off fairly well, but there's one thing that bothers me.
He never offers to pay for my share..

I've been so used to being spoiled to bits by other guys I've gone out on dates and/or had a relationship with. 90% of the time, i never have to pay.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to skimp out on the bill. I'm willing, but the majority of the guys i've dated in the past never allowed me to pay.

Now, i meet this wonderful man and he barely pays for my half. What gives? It makes me feel like we're barely "dating" and just hanging out as friends.

Which leads to my question, what is the British dating etiquette? Elaborate if possible..
Am I just expecting too much out of him?

Thanks (:

All men are different so you never know what to expect, maybe he's just checking out if you are a gold-digger type. If you like him you shouldn't be worrying so much about the financial issues so early in the relationship. Some men no matter how well off they are can resent the kind of woman that always assumes the man will pay. Maybe he's been taken for a fool too many times and is being cautious about women who just want him for his money. It's only fair you pay your share whoever suggests the date if that's what he prefers. If he is kind and he has a good heart then he will show it in other ways, money should not be an issue. Hope all goes well for you.

Thanks for your advice, you're absolutely right. He's a great guy (despite this little "problem").

Thanks to everyone else for their input also, I'll learn how to correctly choose British and English next time. Frankie was a close second for best answer. (:
