Here are some of the specifics from various airlines with bases in the UK:

http://www.flybe.com/careers/cabincrew.h… (recommends Maths and English GCSE)
http://www.easyjetcareers.com/current-va…
http://www.britishairwaysjobs.com/
http://www.ryanair.com/en/careers/job

Maths, English are essential, and a second language would be very useful. A European language might seem obvious, but being able to speak Arabic, Chinese, Japanese or Portuguese would open you up to more work in more countries.

Be very aware, however, that not all cabin crew jobs are the same. There is a distinct hierarchy between short-haul and long-haul work, so you will almost certainly have to start with a lot of short-haul work before you get to work long-haul and enjoy the perks of overnight stops in far flung destinations. The industry is in a lot of trouble at the moment, and the successful airlines such as Ryanair are succeeding because they work their people very hard. Ryanair cabin crew, for instance, work as many as six flights in a half day shift: those who I fly with most regularly have a morning shift that starts at 05.30 and finishes and 14.30, during which time they make three return trips. They depend on a percentage commission on sales from the trolley, scratchcards and duty free to top up their salary. They also have to pay for their training, their uniform etc. It is a hard job, and rarely as glamorous as you might think.

Good luck, and keep working hard.
