Working in Edinburgh?

Hello! I`m going to relocate from Lithuania to Scotland, Edinburgh on about the 10-15 of December and I was just wondering what is the situation with free job vacancies in the city? Almost any legal job would be ok (damn crisis..). What is the most effective way of searching for the job? Job Centre + Recruitment agencies? Please fill free to write here all you know it would help me much. Thank you.

P.s I`m 21-year-old male, good english skills, etc

Additional Details

hm.. very interesting as i was told almost the same that there aren`t many jobs in Edinburgh though impossible is nothing.. I`ve searched through this site and found this topic http://uk.answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Ao7gRuSgeCQGT_UrJbg_Ao9JBgx.;_ylv=3?qid=20090913091840AA6aEBs . What do you all think of it? I`m beginning to get a feeling that it`s impossible to get a job in any scottish/english city due to economic crisis which will end hell knows when..

Ok thank you, maybe Glasgow is indeed the best city to move to. One more thing would it be a good idea to use Job Centre`s and recruitment agencies` service? and if so does anybody knows "good" agencies in Glasgow?

If you are unskilled (ie you do not have a trade) then the most likely type of work you will find is manual labour. There is a lot of recruitment agencies, some that specify with eastern and central europeans (mostly Polish people though) this could vary from working on a production line in a factory to labouring on a building site. If you have experience in manual labour it would be a bonus

Just some advice, theres not that great deal of manual work in Edinburgh, the Glasgow area would be a far better choice

Anyway good luck and i hope you enjoy your time in Scotland

You would be much better moving to Glasgow. Firstly its a much bigger and better city but its also the only city in the United Kingdom that's economy is still growing.

Glasgow is the ONLY city in Europe where hotel occupancy is up, Glasgow's grade A office space is at all time high. There are a number of HUGE developments underway in the city and many more due to start soon. This includes 46 new hotels, including Scotland's first 6 Star hotel, three new arenas/stadiums, a new motorway and many hundreds more such as offices and appartments.

Glasgow's banking industry is also still preforming very well, the same can not be said for the Governments bale out town of edinburgh.

Trust me if you want a job; go to Glasgow!

I wouldnt go to Glasgow as i am from Scotland and stayed in Glasgow for 1 year went joined up with an agency in city centre and filled in a form with job details i was looking for this was 1991

I then left office in Argyll street, nxt day i get a fone call asking me to go into the agency so i make my way by bus to city centre arrive at agency's knock on the door and walk in where the woman i seen the day before sais "Oh Im Sorry your just to old" I was 29 yrs of age and to old she sais for to learn to fit carpets

Really she had all my details with age date of birth etc and tells me to come in as had something for me
then sais im to old "WHAT" they just make a MUG of you in Glasgow.
Also Glasgow i learnt just looks after Glasgow, better going to Edinburgh also is much more cosmopolitan and may meet some of your own country folks unlike in say Glasgow
where they only look after themselve's

But yes there's many polish people as well as a polish shop or 2 in Leith in Edinburgh
as for agency's in Edinburgh there shall be some and just asking at a job centre will put u on the right track.
Hope u find something as many of us Scots cant find a job and many packed in looking after the
Maggie Thatcher years in the early 80s took it's toll here when she closed many places for the ordinary man / woman and now Scotland relies on people like yourself for working in jobs here
and so you have a gd chance i reckon in Edinburgh which is a better looking city and people from all walks of life whereas in Glasgow it can be friendly but you wont get a job there ok. Good luck.
